Pregnancy After Tubal Pregnancy

Last January I had a tubal pregnancy resulting in the removal of my left fallopian tube. My husband and I have been trying for five months (I know this isn't long) but I can't help but feel worried. My sister-in-law told me that I would only be able to get pregnant every other month? (She's a nurse) I feel lost and unsure. I didn't ask the right questions when I needed to because my doctor was awful-can anyone help? -M

I thought that the fallopian tubes alternated on a monthly basis as well, but some things I had read that you it is more random than that. If you are concerned, you could get an ovulation indicator test.

She is right about the every other month thing. Although women have their tubes tied and the cord severed on both sides and still get pregnant.

But with that said go to your OB and talk to him/her and have a real talk. They'll tell you everything you need to know.

But I've had a bunch of miscarriages and I have had 3 live children. Last time I had a miscarriage right away so the next one I took matters into my own hands and first learned all about my body and how to visually find out when I'm ovulating. Then I got a ovulation predictor kit and got pregnant the first month. So I swear by those things. I know they can't work like a charm for everyone but hey that is my only advice.

Good luck and lots of baby dust!

I had an etopic pregancy back in the days before ultra sounds (32 yrs ago) that was found in exploritory surgery to see what was causing so much pain. My left tube (where fetus was) was also removed. My doctor who I had been seeing for fertility problems (oh yea by the way I was on clomid when I got pregnant and was only told about mulitple births being a possible side effect and discovered later that etopic pregancy was also a possibility not that I would have NOT taken the pill anyway) told me that since overy was spared the missing tube alone would not decrease my getting pregnant again. That the eggs from either overy would use the same tube. Sadly it took 2 more miscarriages (& 2 miscarriages before etopic pregancy) and repair surgery cleaning scaring from remain tube to get pregnant with my daughter who is now 28. After the surgery I was pregnant within 2 months and although I almost lost her 3 times including in deliever she was a fighter.

I say also find another doctor who is friendlier and I really don't think your sister-in-law is correct.

The best of luck to you and your husband.

maybe you should make an appt. with a fertility dr. and then at least they can tell you where you stand.

I'm very sorry for your loss. My initial thought was to get a new OB doctor. My second thought is that Clomid would be a great option for you and that you could bring it up to your new doctor. I have a blocked fallopian tube, so Clomid helped my other tube create extra eggs each month. Mine worked after 2 months! My baby boy is 6 months now :) Best of luck to you!

Get a different doctor!! Check your insurance and see if you can see a fertility specialist. Dont waste your time on someone who is awful!! Start charting so you have something to show them when you go in...perhaps something simple like clomid will help. I went to a regular OB and they both helped with fertility questions...you should feel comfortable asking many questions, find someone that will listen!!

I am so sorry about your loss. I had the same thing happen to me in 2006. I had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy & emergency surgery. Due to other female issues I only have @ 3/4 of an ovary to begin with. So we were very concerned. It turns out the baby wasn't in the tube(thankfully) it was just somewhere it wasn't supposed to be. You will ovulate every month. If you lose one ovary the other takes over. We lost the baby in Sept 2006 & I got pregnant again in July of 2007. I now have a very healthy 2 1/12 yr old son. It is very possible to get pregnant w/only 1 tube or ovary. Like I said, I only have 3/4 of 1 ovary & have 2 boys 6 1/2 & 2 1/2. My doctor recommended waiting 3 months to try & conceive though...

It took us 12 months to get pregnant again after our ectopic pregnancy. Your other tube can make up for what the left one isn't doing. I know, I only have one tube and got pregnant two months in a row (both miscarriages at 6 weeks). We were put on clomid (didn't work) and then had a HSG test done to see if the other tube was clogged. The ink cleared my good tube and we were pregnant the same month and I now have a healthy girl who will be 3 this month. :)
