Just found out i was pregnant, I'm about 5 weeks and i have a runny nose, cough, and fever. I think I also have allergies, but I don't want to take anything that will harm my baby. I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon, but until then any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Aww, I completely feel where you are coming from. I have a 12 week old and for the first 3 months of my pregnancy with her I was sick with almost the exact same symptoms. I drank hot water with lemon, since you have to be careful with tea. And you can take tylenol... Since whatever your fever is its one degree higher for baby. And you really need to be careful that it doesnt get to high.. a 101 for you is a 102 for your baby which can be too high. ( I only found this out when I had to deliver 3 weeks early because I got pneumonia and my fever was 103 so they freaked out and had to get baby out)
Don't be surprised if the doctor doesnt do much for you either...
Hope you get to feeling better soon.

try a saline nose spray... and a salt water gargle for your throat. Do this several times a day.
It reduces the bacterial build up in the throat and nasal areas.

Tylenol for the fever (having a fever over 100 in the first trimester is bad as it can cause birth defects so keep it down -- it is less risky) and a spoonful of honey when needed for the cough. Buy yourself a SinuRinse (it is a squeeze bottle where you use distilled water, warm it and put in a saline packet and run it through your sinuses -- WORKS WONDERS for allergies and colds). I have the FLU when 10 weeks with my son (he is now 2) and about 3 colds when pregnant with my daughter (now 3). Also, if the cough is bad during the day (reserve the honey for before bed) buy the Pectin ONLY cough drops like Ludens from the pharmacy. Nothing with menthol or alcohol, etc. Hope you feel better soon!!! They may put you on an antibiotic if they think you need it -- I have been on a Z-Pack when pregnant with no ill effects.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
