Ok, My boston terrier has been shedding a lot for the past few months. I know the seasons play a big part in it, also food choices. But my biggest issue is the loose hair. If I pet her my hand is full of hair! Besides brushing I am not sure what to do to help. I give her a baths (with just plan dog shampoo). Is there a specific brush, shampoo, home treatment or any other ideas that I can try to get rid of all the loose hair??? Thank you so much.

What can I do next?

Salmon oils is supposed to help. I do frequent bathing in a oatmeal/aloe shampoo. I feed a high quality diet. I keep telling him he does not have enough hair to keep shedding but he won't listen to me. I call mine Boston the bald boston. Short of freqent baths and decent diet/supplements there is not a whole lot you can do.

with their really short hair, I'm not sure of that de-shedder brush would be helpful. It could also be from stress... why not call your vet to see if he has any ideas over the phone? Not all vets will require you to come in and pay an office fee for a question.

We get a lot of hair too with our BTs. We don't really brush them though...they are kind of wash and wear dogs in my opinion.

The furminator brush is great for short haired dogs. Use it once a week and you will see a lot less shedding assuming no medical problems.

Ditto on the furminator shampoo and the rubber furminator brush. We don't do it too often but this is definitely the time our dog drops his coat too.

My parents swear by the "Brewers Yeast" tablets they give their dog daily (as recomended by the Vet). Good luck.

I would cut down on the baths, you don't need to so much. Not sure how often you're doing it. The Ferminator (or something just like it) is HIGHLY recommended by our vet. We also bought one just like it & it works great. We have a Boston & a lab mix. The lab sheds a heck of a lot more than our Boston. Like the others said, maybe change food. We also give fish oil (over the counter). Call your vet for dosing.

Good luck!

Hi Athena-

My ex's family used to breed irish terriers...in fact, as a wedding gift (NOT appreciated...lol) I got a 'runt' from ex's brother...

The 'key' I found, was getting a 'stripping' comb...a pet store would have one...but basically, comb thru the coat with thumb over...and pull out the under coat.

I LOVE love animals...and 'spike' was an OK dog...BUT he peed ON any toilet he saw...no matter HOW clean...(and he was fixed)...but when he 'snapped' at my first born baby...he was returned to my BIL...

Best Luck!

I have a Pug. They are huge shedders all year around. I really suggest using a salmon oil supplement. It helps SO much. I suggest 1000mg per day.

cut back on the bathing-your drying the skin out to much-start adding a 1/4 teaspoon of olive oil to the food.or salmon oil but thats pretty spendy-ive got 3 dogs.the more stimulation you give the hair the more its gonna fall out.
