Hi,

We're planning to visit Las Vegas in a couple of weeks with our 18 month old (who is just starting to walk). I would really appreciate your recommendations for a sturdy but preferably light weight stroller.

Thank you.

I second the Chicco Liteway! I love the fact that it has a harness as well as a lap belt because my son has a habit of falling forward when he falls asleep in it and that keeps him in better. (He also tends to throw himself forward when he doesn't want to be in the stroller anymore and the harness prevents that.) We've taken it on a couple of airplane rides and it has held up well. Plus, the little "basket" at the bottom doubles as a backpack.

We have a Maclaren Quest which I would recommend. It's really light and collapses easily. There's no food tray or any fancy options, but that's OK and why it's so light. We've taken it with us on 3 cross-country flights and it's great. Otherwise, you could just get a simple umbrella stroller and use it just for traveling.

We love our Chicco stroller we bought a few years ago. It is light, folds up tightly like an umbrella stroller, and yet has great steering and stability. You can adjust how upright your child sits, and it has shoulder harnesses instead of just a lap belt. It is also sturdy. I went through 3 of the cheap Jeep strollers with just my first two kids--the Chicco survived the third child and is waiting in the garage for #4. Here is a link:

Good luck! There are so many choices these days. I'm sure you'll find a good one.

combi has an awesome super compact lightweight stroller, it folds in half & a strap to carry it on your shoulder.....if we go to the city we can take it into a restaurant & stand it next to us or slide it under the table

We travel a lot with our daughter who is now 4. We've been using a Maclaren Volo for a couple of years. It's more sturdy than a cheap umbrella stroller and has taller handles. We originally bought a Kolcraft umbrella stroller but both my husband and I were kicking the wheels all the time and the handles were too low for both of us (we're 5'7" & 6') so it hurt our backs. If you are going to be using it quite a bit, you want something that is comfortable for you to push and it's worth investing in something a little stronger. We've also used the Maclaren for day trips or just to the mall or things like that too because it's so much smaller and lighter than a big stroller.

I have a Maclaren, which I think is great. It is the umbrella style, easy to fold up, and light weight.

Also, if you ever fly with your little one, this stroller is great in the airport because it fits through the x-ray machines. We always buy a ticket for our boy, which means we use his car seat also. Lots of car seats will fit, with minimal cajoling, into the Maclaren stroller, which is ever so handy for getting through the airport with a toddler.

Have fun!

Another vote for Combi., lightweight and compact, good for traveling.
Not to mention the price is also very reasonable.

Jeep always has a great lightweight umbrella stroller. Bigger wheels and a better angle from your hand to the front wheels make it great to puch, but inexpensive and non bulky in crowds. I LOVED mine so much that i bought another when mine was stolen, even though my daughter was coming to the end of her stroller days.

Do you already have a "main" stroller that you love but is just too heavy/bulky to bring along? B/C one option I haven't seen mentioned yet is to get an inexpensive umbrella stroller to be your "travel" stroller. Our family got a couple hand-me-down no-frills Kolcraft umbrella strollers from relatives, and we found them really handy for travel and outings to places like zoos, aquarium, etc., where we'd occasionally be parking the strollers while our twins got out and explored. A couple nice things about having these 'cheapo' strollers was that they are *very* compact and we didn't worry about theft or damage

What we found easiest when traveling by plane with a single child is to just buy an umbrella stroller from Target or someplace similar. They are so easy to pack with the luggage, open & close really fast in the airport, slide thru security, and manuever thru crowds. We have a larger (luxury!) stroller for home.

I have two Maclaren Volos, and LOVE them. Lightweight, mesh seat keeps the kids cool, large basket (especially for an umbrella stroller), and you can easily hook a caddy on the back, to hold all your junk.

For future reference (when you have another child), when I have both girls by myself, I use plastic connectors to attach the two strollers together, to make them like a double-stroller. LOVE IT!!!!

Have a great trip!

The McLauren Stroller is great, we bought one and have taken it on several trips very lightweight sturdy and it has a canopy to protect your child from the sun. It also has a strap that you can use to hang the stoller on your shoulder if your child decides that they would rather walk. For the price I think it is worth it.

My husband and I love our Maclaren Quest.. It's great! You won't be sorry if you decide to purchase one. We wish we had even purchased it sooner. I do believe most Maclaren strollers are on the smaller/lightweight size.

I use the Chicco Liteway and Love it! I am about to post a review for it on my blog, www.sproutreviews.com next month, but you should check it out in the store. It offers features the Maclaren doesn't and is cheaper. It seems to be a more solid design, but not as light as the Maclaren. Check it out next time your at Babies-R-Us, Chicco is a quality brand, often the highest ranking in consumer reports.

I recently got a Maclaren Quest, and I really like it. It folds and unfolds easily - I can do it with one hand, while holding my 16-month-old daughter in the other arm. They are pretty pricey, but I was able to purchase a used one from someone on Craigslist for a fraction of the price of a new one.
