I think this is who we need to see. My 3 week old has really bad acid reflux and we just need a second opinion from his regular doctor. Thank you

My twins were born with acid reflux ... moderate to severe. I would also highly recommend Dr Nancy Yokois. My twins and I absolutely love and respect her, she's done wonders for my babies. My boy/girl twins are now 11mos and have been treated by her now for about 10mos. I wouldn't go to anyone but her. If you have any questions I would love to talk to you about her ###-###-####. Good luck :o)

I'm the mom whose child was born without an esophagus. Though it was repaired, we've had to manage his health very closely for the past almost 8 years. GI issues such as GERD and swallowing have been the biggest issues. Dr. Ramon Montes (Dr. Yokois works in his office) is the number one pediatric GI doc. Avoid the Phx Child Hosp group if you can. Montes "gets it" and I've seen him do almost "miraculous" things with other patients. Anyway, my understanding is that 1/3 of all newborns have acid reflux simply because their li'l GI tracts / systems are so underdeveloped. That's 33 babies out of 100! I cringe when I see babies lying flat and screaming....some are having reflux and just need to be held upright for a bit. Get a "baby bjorn" or similar pack to hold him upright or keep him in a carseat or bouncy seat so he's somewhat upright. The doc may Rx something like Prevacid which is the only proton pump inhibitor approved by the FDA for pediatric use. Don't let it scare you as it did me. It will relieve any burning that may accompany the reflux, thus keeping the esophagus from being damaged by the acids coming up.Your child may only need it for a few months until his GI tract is better developed. In the meantime, keep that sweet baby upright as much as you can. We literally had our newborn sleep in his carseat (in the house, of course) just to keep him upright while sleeping so the acid couldn't come up so easily. Let me know how it all goes.

My son goes to Dr. Nancy Yokois at AZ Children's Gastroenterology. He also had very severe reflux and was slow growing (diagnosed failure to thrive). She was the first doctor who gave me a plan to follow to help him grow and she has been amazing. I highly recommend. She has an office in Mesa (Desert Medical Pavilion, 1432 S. Dobson Rd, Ste. 402, Mesa, AZ 85202) and a satellite office in Scottsdale (Santa Fe Medical Plaza, 9755 N 90th St, Ste. C-200, Scottsdale, AZ 85258). The phone for both is ###-###-####.

Blessings,
D.
