Recommendations for Allergist

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good allergist around Dublin? When my son was a week old, we discovered he had a dairy and soy intollerances. I am breastfeeding, so I eliminated those from my diet. Now that I'm aware of the various symptoms of food allergies, I believe that he and I both have several food allergies. I want to find a good allergist that can help me identify what I have issues with in the hopes that I can eliminate those items (and help my son as well).

What can I do next?

I haven't made an appt with them yet, but my pediatrician referred me to Midwest Allergy. My daughter gets really bad hives. Since Benadryl and the steroids didn't take care of them, we have to see an allergist. Good luck

I recommend Roger Friedman His office is on Frantz Road he also has an office on Cleveland Avenue. His office phone in Westerville is ###-###-#### and I am sure they can give you his Dublin office number. He sees both adults and children. He is also a lung doctor. My brother and I have been seeing him since we were children and I recommended a friend there who has a 3 year old with terrible asthma and allergies. I love him and would never consider changing unless he retires. Buckeye allergy is the name of his practice. Good luck!

Julia - we also went to Midwest Allergy and had a good experience there. I can't remember if we needed a referral from the pediatrician in order to get an appt. I think we might have. My son was 3 and we did the skin test on the back. (They use 5-pronged plastic things that are dipped in the allergen and then applied to the back. There are six of seven of these with the last one as the control, so it itches if the tests are going right. They are much better than the old ones that actually scraped you. My son didn't love it, but it wasn't the horrible experience it used to be.) My son didn't register any allergies, but the doctor said that he might be too young for the allergy to be found in his skin readily so my impression is that they might not test a child younger than that. They said that he might also just have some seasonal allergies that get aggravated at a particular time of year. My son and daughter were both allergic to dairy and soy as babies - it runs in our family so it was an easy deduction for us. I was also allergic as a child to strawberries or anything with a lot of citric acid (got hives), chocolate (thank God that went away!) and a few other things. You might call the office and ask them if they do testing on children your child's age and if they don't, what do they recommend? You might just try pulling the foods you suspect from the diet one at a time to see which is the culprit. Not scientific, but it might be your only option right now if the testing is inconclusive on young ones. Hope they can do something for you! Good luck!

I would recommend taking your son to Dr. Sandra Pinkham on Riverside Dr. in Arlington. She is not an allergist, but she can help you learn how to live with allergies, and how to give your son the most nutritious diet possible. She also has a diet plan that she recommends specifically to help reduce the severity of allergic reactions. Her background is in traditional pediatric medicine. She is now in family practice, treating her patients with a more naturopathic approach. She has helped me tremendously. I worked for her years ago when she was practicing pediatric medicine exclusively, and the improvement in her patients who followed her program was astounding.

Her office is located at the SW corner of Riverside and Club Rd., facing Club Rd. It's right across the street form the Scioto Country Club property.

Good luck!
