Hello moms, I'm looking for advice on a good beach tent or cabana that we can use this summer at the beach and in our backyard to protect our baby from the sun. I'm looking for one that is big enough for me to go in there with him to nurse.

A., I just came across this and hope this will help. I'm a mom of 3 boys, 4,6 and 4months...:)
I found last year after MUCH research... AMAZING tent for beach .. you name it... it's by ABO gear... the instent tent. I needed a tent that you could set up in less than 15seconds (amount of time it takes my son to run to water... DANGER) that wouldn't blow away either. I take my suitcase potty from One step ahead. and the tent it zips completely closed for privacy/changing.... can withstand 65mile winds... YIKEs! I'mm not testing that one...lol Everyone that has asked me an bought it LOVES it...Best of LUck. L. s.

We got the Family Beach Cabana Tent from One Step Ahead & love it. At first it is a bit cumbersome to get back into the bag, but once you get the hang of it its not bad. I like it because it is big enough for both my kids & me to be in there at the same time. Its a bit on the expensive side, but it is sturdier than other ones I've tried in th epast that barely lasted one summer.

The Sun Smarties Infant Cabana from One Step Ahead is a good one. We bought it and have used it at the beach. Easy to set-up, take down and it even stayed up in some pretty strong wind. I wouldn't call it spacious...but I was able to sit up in it for nursing. Here is the link...

Hi - I don't recall the name/brand of the one we have, but I bought it last summer at the Christmas Tree Shop for like $12 or so. I LOVE it! It's super easy to use and big, definitely provides lots of shade and plenty of room !

Hi A.. We have the sun tent from LL Bean and it is awesome. It's huge, big enough for all three kids plus my husband! And it's easy to set up! Good Luck!

We got a really great one from LL Bean last summer when I was still nursing my 3-month-old. I think it is called a "shelter" and the great thing about it is that it is open in the front and very tall, so I could actually fit a beach chair in there to nurse. It was pretty easy to set up, too. We had gotten a cheaper one from One Step Ahead with my first child and it did not hold up well. I would recommend spending the extra money and going with a camping brand if that's possible. Good luck!

I just bought a great one at Costco yesterday. It was $50 and it is basically an oversized umbrella with side flaps (that have zip-open mesh windows for extra air flow). It is really easy to set up and big enough to fit several people underneath and provides great coverage against rain, wind, and sun.
We had tried a mini-tent back when I was nursing, and I found it too hot for the beach because it didn't allow enough air flow. I wish I could remember the name of the umbrella I just bought - it was at the Everrett Costco location near the patio furniture.

We bought the Nantucket Beach Shelter from Rio Beach a couple of years ago. I think we got it at the Christmas Tree Shop. Is is very lightweight and compact, with a bag you can sling over your shoulder. It's easy to assemble but if it's extremely windy you need 2 people. The 4 corners go down into the sand but if it's very windy you can add a little sand inside the tent, and throw a chair in there or a cooler, diaper bag or whatever you have. Once you're in it, the top is very sturdy even in a stiff breeze - it doesn't collapse on you or anything like that! It says it is rated 50 SPF, it has 2 little windows so you can get a cross breeze if you need it, and it's big enough for us to put 2 beach chairs inside. You could definitely nurse, either by sitting in a chair or by lying down the long way inside, with plenty of privacy. If we put the back of it into the wind, it stayed warm inside even on very windy days. We've also used it in the grass when we've had picnics. I think we paid around $35-40 for it and it was worth it. Good luck!

There's a great tent made by phil and teds. it's a little pricy, but should be large enough for you to fit into as well. You could also just purchase a regular tent and then buy a uvb protective cover to wrap around it. I have one for our stroller and its great. philandteds.com Let me know how it works!
