Hello all! I am expecting my first child in August and am looking for a pediatrician to care for him. I prefer someone within the Methodist Health System; however, I was told to look for someone close to where I live, which is in Plano. Any referrals of good providers are welcome! Thanks!

What can I do next?

My children are no longer young enough to use pediatricians but when they were we used Dr. Carolyn Evans who now has an office in Plano. It's located at 4114 W. 15th Street, Suite 100, telephone number ###-###-####. The website is www.northdallasped.com

Hi C.,

Both of my girls (4yo, 4mo) see Dr. Monica Herrera with Windhaven Pediatrics at Plano Presby. She is awesome - was the first person to diagnose my older daughter with acid reflux before it was really noticed in newborns and helped us treat it. She is always on top of the latest medical updates and has always been able to refer us to top specialists in the field for anything she couldnt resolve (i.e. for my daughter's severe eczema she referred us to a wonderful pediatric dermatologist). She is conservative on writing prescriptions, never giving drugs unless she feels its absolutely necessary. SHe has a wonderful personality and always makes my girls feel relaxed and special during their visits. I highly recommend her: ###-###-####. Good luck!

Hi C.

First off, let me say congratulations!

We use Dr. McDonald who works with Dr. Katz (someone else posted about Katz) They are both wonderful Dr.'s and I highly recommend them both. My first son was born at 25 weeks so I wanted to make sure we had a dr. that I felt could handle such a small preemie. I took my provider book into the NICU one day & all the nurses told me to use Dr. McDonald. They all used Dr. McDonald or Dr. Katz. I figured if the nurses like them enough than they have to be good. And, he is! His office is right next to Medical Center of Plano off of Coit & 15th. ####-###-####

Good luck with everything!

Hi C.!!

I have the greatest pediatrican in Plano!!! Her name is Carloyn Ashworth and she is associated with Medical Center of Plano on Coit & 15th. She has been wonderful over the 12 years I've know her and has a great support staff of doctors as well. One of the additional things she has which has been great is she also runs an after hours doctor's office called Pediatrics After Hours (also in Plano) which keeps the emergency room visits down and the cost is a simple office visit! Contact her at ###-###-#### - she's the greatest!

I love Dr. Berkowitz. We've been with him since my son was a newborn and he is now almost 7. Like the other poster said...he is hard to get into at times due to his popularity. The others in the practice all seem pretty good too. Dr. B however is great and might be worth your time checking him out.

I recommend Dr. Julie Messner at Pediatric Specialists of Plano. ###-###-#### Our doctor is actually Dr. Berkowitz at that same office and we adore him - however, he is so popular it is very hard to get in to see him with sick appointments, and they even book well baby appointments close to a year in advance. Since you are starting fresh, I think Dr. Messner is a better choice. We have seen her on several occassions when Dr. B couldn't see us for sick visits. She is very nice and has a great bedside manner even with a screaming sick toddler. She is the newest member of that practice so she is usually available to see. We actually considered making her our second child's priimary doc, but figured it would be silly to have two different pediatricians. Any of the doctors there are great. The office staff is great too! I do get the feeling that all the docs there lean toward the conservative side, so if you are looking for more of a free spirit alternative type doc, they may not be best for you.

Both my children see Dr Charles Dunlap in Plano. He (and the two others doctors there) are with Pediatric Associates of Dallas. They have an office in Plano (Tollway and Windhaven area) and an office in Dallas next to Presby Dallas. They were at one time (might still be) rated as the best ped doctors in Dallas Best magazine...Big D whatever. They have an after hours phone service that will page a nurse on call who can give you info if you should need to. Their office in Dallas is also open on Saturdays from 8-12 should you have an emergency. They also have appts after 5pm. We see Dr Dunlap but have also seen Dr Cynthia Webb in the same office. They also have a new doctor...can't think of her name...a PA who also is usually open...the office in Dallas we have seen Dr Finkelman and at least 75% of the other doctors there. They do regularly scheduled checkups with ASQ forms...childhood assessment....I have heard other peds don't do that. The also will keep my older daughter busy while by little boy gets his shots (she doesnt' like him crying). They are awesome. And I almost NEVER have a problem getting into Dr Dunlap...Dr Webb is usually REALLY busy...but he isn't.

Here is their #, ###-###-####..... you push # 1 for the Dallas office, or # 2 for the Plano office then follow the prompts. Also their nurses, receptionist ladies are awesome. We love Ms Judy and Ms Lisa at the front desk...they know each of my children's names by heart.

Hope this helps. You can also call them now and tell them you want them to be your child's pediatrician and they can set up your insurance info ahead....you call them the day your child is born and they set up appts from there. I know they are affliated with the Presby hosptials...Dallas and Plano..don't know about any others....you would have to check.

here is the link to their website....
