Romantic Anniversary Get Away

Hi ladies,

I was just wondering if anyone had a good recommendation for a weekend getaway for an anniversary. My husband and I will be celebrating our 20th this August and I would like to go away at least overnight. I would like it to be somewhere not too far away, on the water or "in nature", or somewhere where there is something interesting to do or see. Actually, just some quiet time and a good meal would be great, too. Please let me know if you have any recommendations. Thanks.

My mother-in-law says that the St. Claire Inn in St. Claire Shores is very nice. It's also on the river and you can watch the large ships going to and from Canada. She also says the service is wonderful.
Good luck although it doesn't seem like you need it if you've worked together for 20 years! Keep up the good work!

Lexington, MI is awesome. It's just a little further than Port Huron. I've gone there a few times for weekend getaways. Stay at one of the motels on the lake or rent a cottage. The town is clean and has great shops. Google up Lexington, MI and check out their website and the pictures.

Saugatuck has great B & B's. We go there for our anniversary. They can be pricy during the busy season. Look anywhere on the west coast for a quiet get away.
Have fun!

On our 20th anniversry our kids sent us to Mackinaw Island and we stayed on the island. It was so nice to have no cars, we rode bicycles. Our stay their was so memorable, we walked and enjoyed the nice weather and looked at the beautiful homes. If you could leave Friday early am and drive there and take the ferry to the island you could enjoy the Saturday and leave just after noon on Sunday. A romantic dinner at the Grand Hotel is just perfect or have dinner on top of the Fort, where you can see the island and the water, just gorgeous. Hope your anniversary is a special one!

Bed and Breakfast in Chesaning Mi small town.
http://www.stonehousebnb.com/index.htm This is not far from Frankenmuth. My husband and I have stayed here a couple times. We also for our 10th anniversary went to the Smoky Mountains and rented a private cabin. http://www.volunteercabinrentals.com/ It was beautiful, close to nature we hiked to see lovely waterfalls. We spent a weekend there. The drive down was not long. This may be more than you are looking for but we had such a lovely time in the mountains thought you might look into it. Our anniversary is in April so the rates will be different in August. Hope you find a place that you will both enjoy. Congratulations on 20 years!!
PS I wanted to Ditto someone who suggested Niagra on the Lake, my husband and I went there too. It was a lovely visit.
