Safe Ways to Treat Acne While Breastfeeding?

Hello moms! I am a nursing mom and when my baby was about six months old (in January), I developed a pretty bad case of facial acne that has persisted. I went to see a dermatologist. I told her I was nursing, and she prescribed Erythromycin Topical Gel.

According to the medicine information sheet, this passes into breastmilk. However, it is apparently approved by the American Academy of Pediatrics for nursing moms. I am just wondering if anyone can give me advice on 1) whether applying this gel is really safe for my baby; 2) are there alternative acne treatments that are safe while breastfeeding; 3) can anyone recommend a good non-comedogenic foundation that has SPF but would help me cover up the acne for a bit? It's not very attractive! Thanks so much.

Along with the change in your diet, try "Thoroughly Clean Face Wash". You can find it at the grocery store or Trader Joes. It's cheaper at Trader Joes. It is all natural and works great!! I used to use proactive but couldn't when I was pregnant so I tried this...it was great!! Have had no problems and didn't switch back to proactive!!

HI Simone~
There is a company called Arbonne International that has an entire acne line that is non-toxic and uses natural ingredients in their products. I am an Independent Consultant for this company have used it myself during my cycle to try it out and got excellent results.I would be more than happy to give you more information if you are interested. If you live in the area I would be more than willing to drop the kit off and let you try it for a week. Good Luck.
Kristina~

Simone,
I have always fought with my skin with break outs and prescription gels. I didn't find much to help until I started using Arbonne. I am not a consultant, just a client who loves their products. When I got pregnant with my daughter a few months ago I had been using a different skin care line and continued to break out. I had about 10-15 pimples. I used the oily skin care system through Arbonne and literally over night they were almost all cleared up with no more breakouts. I have had pretty clear skin since then, so you could say I'm hooked to this line! Good luck with it!

Instead of a topical treatment from outside, you could try a safe and patented nutritional supplement to restore balance from inside. You could prevent the breakouts rather than treat them after the fact. I use Reliv products and can't say enough about the life-changing results. Total safe for pregnant women, nursing moms, infants - it's all food and no drugs or stimulants. I'd be happy to give you more info.

You don't need any of those nasty medicines. Cut out sugar, dairy and white flour for a while and take a fish/flax/evening primrose(or borage) oil combination (also known as omega 3-6-9 blend, sold at the health food store. I'm a health counselor and have peronal experience with this. This is absolutely the best remedy for acne/hormonal issues in women, and its the best thing to do when nursing anyway because your baby needs those good oils for healthy brain development as well.
