Seeing Double on Mamapedia?

Do you or does someone you know have multiple accounts on Mamapedia? Why would people do that? We're all working moms - whether outside of the home or at home with the kids - so who on earth would have time to double up on the Mamapedia?

I'm just curious because I tend to get PMs from one person (let's call her Dolly only because I've never seen a Dolly on here) whose messages to me sounds almost EXACTLY like the comments given in response to a question another person (let's call her MomOfDsKids).

Anyone else experience this? I'd love to hear if it happens to you, too!

Or do any of you have more than one account with different screen names? I don't see the point but maybe I'm missing something, so clue me in if I am!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Great insight thus far - and reasons I would never have thought of before. Thanks!

In my case, I think there is someone who just REALLY doesn't like what I have to say (they are clearly two different accounts), so she will post something publicly on one account and then PM the heck out of me on the other. I was just curious if anyone else had noticed that sort of cowardly, passive-aggressive, intolerant behavior.

Well I must be invisible because no one sends me pm's. LOL

No, but I have seen some trolls have two accounts.

I dont think it's right to send nastygrams through pm.

No, never happened to me. Interesting. I do see a lot of responses to posts that seem to mimick each other quite a bit. Maybe these two moms just think alike? I know there are many times moms answer a question and I am thinking - "holy cow I could have written that!" Krista P comes to mind here!

And regarding time - you mean time to log in to two different accounts and post using both of them? That IS A lot of time now that I think about it!

Ask her.

(When I first saw your title, I thought you were going to ask about accidental double posting of questions. I was like, YES, someone is going to tell me how to delete those identical double posts I see sometimes!!)

I have come across this. A mom whose public profile is worded differently, but the demographics match exactly (# of kids, married for x years, city, etc.), and the screen names are similar, like Dolly3 and MomD3 or something like that... not sure why people do that. I don't think it happens too often, but it does happen.

There have also been posters who posted regularly, got pi$$ed at people, said they weren't coming back, then came back under a different screen name. It was so obvious who this person was due to exact usage of lots of weird acronyms and no capital letters in her posts. People started alluding to the fact that they realized she was the old poster who left the site the week before, and she left again. Either she hasn't come back, or she changed her grammar/punctuation... lol

I set up a 2nd account 2 years ago to post an extremely embarassing question. There are a few people on here who know me personally and I didn't want them to know it was me. To be honest I can't even remember the login information for my alternate mom account, and I haven't used it since posting that question so long ago.

When you sign up here, (in your profile page) you put in your "name" etc. in the blank spaces. You can put any name in there. Your 'real" name or a fake name.

THEN, there is a "online nickname" fill in area too. When you sign up.
Thus, some people have this.
Thus, you will see their "name" and/or their 'online nickname' will get displayed per their responses. But it is the same person.

THEN, some people, also have more than 1 account on MamaPedia.
For anonymity sake.
You can do this.

So, there is a:
1) Profile name, when you sign up. For sign up sake. And,
2) there is an "Online Nickname" too, for your online name.

I was on MamaSource. Then it became MamaPedia.
My account, is still the same. No duplicate.

I think a PM message has a "real" name instead of what her "handle" is when she asks questions...maybe only it you are "friends"? Not sure. But have noticed the PM name NT being the screen name we see for questions.
That's what I've noticed. BUT I know there are a few with multiple accounts.

Maybe some people like to talk to themselves.

Really it has to do with your online name, and your profile name. I get the notice of a message from a name, but its actuallly from a different name online.

I opened one other account a couple years ago when I had to ask a sensitive and personal question. But I don't even remember what it is and haven't used it again.

I think I had two different accounts at one point because my cousin sent an invite to join MamaSource to my work account and then I couldn't log in from work so I ended up doing another account from my personal e-mail. I could see creating a separate account if you had something very personal that you needed advice on and knew that people you know IRL are on here. Part of the value of being able to share is feeling like your fairly anonymous - you ladies know more about the messy parts of life than family or friends IRL do!

I have always wondered this too. I also wonder sometimes if the trolls are lurking...

My house mate always jokes about making an account and joking with me...I have told him numerous times that he would have hell to pay if he did.

He would never do it...but it makes me wonder how many do actually do it.

I have only the ONE screen name. I have thought about figuring out how to change it..but I would not try and alter my identity:)

When mamasource merged and became mamapedia, I think that it may have created a duplicate account for me. Both have the same screen name, and I don't actively try to find one vs the other (especially not to double post). I've just noticed that some questions I asked "disappeared" for a while, then they suddenly came back and more recent questions had vanished. But this probably has nothing to do with what you're noticing (unless they caught it and are now taking advantage of it). I do wonder, though, if anyone else has had this happen

Not me, I rarely have the time to keep up with the 1 account I have. Now I have no clue if I was duplicated when Mamasource and Mamapedia joined forces.

I have noticed where someone has changed their name on occasion. I assumed they did that if they ended up knowing someone on here. In that case, I'd change my name but not open another account.
