I'm looking for a lawn care company that sprays and fertilizes grass besides TruGreen.

What can I do next?

Dear M.,

As a mother of a young child, you should not even think of exposing her (or yourself, your pets, wild birds, neighbors, etc) to the chemicals that are commonly applied to lawns. You should look for a lawn care company that will apply a layer of compost to your yard twice a year - once in mid-April, once in mid-October - or you can even do this yourself. Along with proper watering, this will provide all the nutrients your lawn needs without the need for dangerous chemicals.

While I do understand Nancy's thoughts on chemical lawn care, if the company is responsible and uses the product as intended it is perfectly safe. My husband used to work on the service side of lawn care and now is on the supply side. You do not allow your child or pets to be on the lawn while the product is wet; otherwise as long as you use a reputable company and follow their recommendations you will be fine. We know the man who owns GroGreen and he is very knowledgable and customer service oriented. No matter who you use be certain they keep their employees certification current along with continual training.
