We are excited to be relocating to the Plano area from Chicago for my husband's job. Looking for any advice on a young kid friendly neighborhood not to far from his work(Legacy & Headquarters Dr). We are in our early 30's and have a 2.5 yr and 5 mo old and would love to be in a neighborhood with similar families. So far we have liked Deerfield, Russell Creek and Sun Creek. Wondering if those are pretty family friendly? Are we missing any other neighborhoods to look at?? We're hoping to stay under $350,000 if possible and 30 min or less commute. Any advice is much appreciated! Thank you so much!!

What can I do next?

Allen is a very family-friendly area. Twin Creeks is another great option. I used to commute to Legacy/Headquarters from Allen and it is only a 20-25 minute drive and a very easy commute (no heavy traffic or anything). If you are doing a zipcode home search, try 75013, which is the west side of Allen. Allen has great family parks and activities too!

We recently moved to Plano as well and have 2 boys ages 6 and 3. We are in the area you mentioned, right at Legacy and Independence and Hedgecoxe and Custer, near Bethany Elementary. We did pay less than $350,000 (closer to $300,000). So far I really like the area, there are quite a few kids since the school is so close. And there is a play area at the school and right down the street is another park. Plus, the library is right across Independence and there is another large park right there too. And I think your husband's commute would be 15-20 minutes.

E., I know each of those neighborhoods well. Here's my opinion: Deerfield, now over 20 years old, will be less likely to have as many young families. My BF lives in Russell Creek and often complains that the cultural divesity of the neighborhood keeps people from interacting as much, sad, but true. Sun Creek is a great neighborhood with a great school. Right by Sun Creek is Twin Creeks I, which I have observed to be the most "neighborly" neighborhood I've seen. The amenities in the neighborhood keep everyone outside and interacting. That school is great as well. You'll really enjoy it down here- people are very friendly! Good luck.

Hi E.,
We live in Oakwood Glen. It's between Hedgcoxe and Legacy, and Custer and Red River in Plano. It's a slightly older neighborhood (built in the early '90's), but the homes are all custom-built and well cared for. The neighborhood is full of kids and the elementary (Hedgcoxe Elementary) and middle school (Hendrick MS) and both exemplary rated and within walking distance. The families that are here have been here for a while and everyone knows each other. We moved here a little over 4 years ago and it is wonderful! We LOVE the schools and I have made many great friend myself. It's hard to find a house for sale in the neighborhood, and when you do they go fast. There are a few cul-d-sacs, and there is a creek that runs behind the neighborhood and through to the next neighborhood. The kids play outside safely and everyone looks out for each other. There is a community pool and tennis courts, and there are always activities going on there. You can always run into someone you know at the clubhouse in the summer. The houses range from the low $200,00's to mid 300,000's. Can you tell I love my neighborhood!! Hope you check it out!

We built our home in SunCreek in 2000. It is a very family friendly neighborhood. Organized activities throughout the year to get families out to mix, mingle and make friends.

Check out the website eee.suncreek.org

We are in the Brookwood II section and back up to the park property. The park property homes have front access and no alleys. There are a few basement homes on the park as well. Unfortunately, no park properties are currently for sale...it is rare for one to hit the market and when it does, it moves quickly due to the larger lots and privacy.

However, there are some very nice homes in your price range in the neighborhood. Brookwood III is the newest portion.

Brookwood I, II, and III are all Allen address and Plano schools. We are happy with our schools. Oakknoll on the West side of Rollins is Plano address, Plano ISD. Timberridge just north off Suncreek Dr is Allen address, Allen schools. The Allen schools are great as well.

Before I had my daughter (she's now 14), I was in the corporate world at Legacy/Headquarters area. From my neighborhood it is less than 20 minutes to that area. The Shops of Legacy at the Tollway and Legacy are wonderful for shopping, dining and nightlife.

You'll get lots of responses with everyone talking about their neighborhood. Each area has the perks.

We opted NOT to move to Lakeside or Willow Bend area by Gleneagles which are both more convenient for us because we are at the club very often because generally, the lots were smaller, (houses are awesome), and the traffic was heavier in the area.

We value privacy. our huge wooded lot and all the wildlife we see over that area.

It is a personal choice. Good luck and Welcome to the area.

Crystal Creek is another nice neighborhood with a lot of young famlies. The school is a Frisco school and a really good one. The main streets that it's around is Ohio, Hedgcoxe, and Coit so you would be really close to your husbands work. The other areas that you are looking at are really nice also. Deerfield has a nice school also and they do a lot of Christmas decorations. It's a very popular neighborhood to drive thur at Christmas time. I don't know much about the family aspect. Good luck and hope you enjoy moving to Plano!!

You might look at Bent Tree, Country Brook and Parkway Village. They are considered Dallas, but in the Plano ISD. It is located off the Tollway and Frankford. Kids go to Mitchell Elementary which is fantastic!

Welcome to Texas! My husband works in an office at The Shops at Legacy, very near Legacy and Headquarters. We live in The Trails of West Frisco, just north of Plano. Your husband's office is in far north Plano, and Frisco is just across 121 from there. We have lived here for 8 1/2 years and LOVE it! Very family oriented neighborhood with lots of young families and activities. It takes my hubby maybe 20 minutes to get to his office during peak traffic, and I can get there in 10-15 minutes during the day. There are some very nice homes in The Trails in your price range. Come check us out!

Hey E., my name is Miranda and we moved into the area 2yrs ago from Atlanta. This is our second time coming back to Dallas and we moved right back to the same city. We live in Coppell, it is about 10-15min south of Plano. They just built a new tollway that is super quick. The reason for the same city is that it's less than 20min away from everything. Downtown Dallas and Ft worth, both zoos are about 25min., museums, everything medical, all shopping, etc. It is a very small community with it's own ISD. All the schools are exemp. and very close to one another. It's a small town feel, but close to everything big. Super kid friendly. I rarely use my SVU, I ride my bike everywhere, library, restaurants, friends house, like 5 diff. parks, schools, blockbuster, etc. There are trails throughout the small city and all the sports activities (ie. soccer, football, lacrosse, baseball, softball) can be either walking dis. or biking, no more than a 5min car ride. HMs are a little pricer per sq. footage but you basically buy into the area and the hm don't lose value. I am a mother of 3 kids (12yr, 4yr, and 2) I don't regret the decision at all. We love it here, it's like living in the 1950s. Costco, Walmart, home Depot, 5 grocery stores, farmers market, they are all within 5 miles. Anyway, I hope this helps, I know it's hard moving into another city.

The best advice I can give you is find a good realtor who is knowledgeable in the area. If you need any help in that area I have a very good friend who has worked the Plano market 30+ years and it an awesome agent! Good Luck & Welcome to Plano!
