Seeking Advice on Foster Parenting

i don't think it matters that you're a single parent. i work in childcare and we have had several foster children (currently one that is with a single parent). i think that is wonderful that you want to be a foster mom. just remember--some ages, some children, will have problems and they may be tough to deal with. and be sure that you'll be able to handle giving them back (its very easy to get attached, especially with infants). we had sisters that one foster family had at 2 different times and knowing their background--it was heartbreaking that the courts would give them back. all of us at the daycare cried. it still upsets me to this day.

It certainly doesn't matter if you are a single parent. they are always looking for good quality foster parents. there aren't enough of them. i work in the disability field so i know a little bit about it and when doing my internship i taught the MAPP classes (don't know if that's what it's called anymore) and actually became certified. one day i may become one myself. if you have any more questions, you can email me:)

My husband and I are in the process of becoming Foster Parents now. We started the process back in August and still dont expect to get kids till mid-March. It is a long process, so dont think it will happen over night. And altho I think most countys follow similar guidelines each have differences. There is a number you can call 1-877-210-Kids to start the process and get some information. I know for a fact that they do allow singel parents to be foster parents. They will require a background check, fingerprinting and adequate space in your home. Call the number they will send you an information packet to get you started and that will answer alot of your questions. Good luck on this. It is such a blessing to want to and be able to give to others unable to do for themselves. Let me know how it goes!

I was a foster parent for 2 years before I moved to Georgia. I enjoyed it but there are a few things to understand. Sometimes it can be very difficult, especially if you already have children. You never know what they have seen or been through before they come to you and sometimes they are very negative or don't want to share with your family b/c they have been in so many different places. On the upside, you learn A LOT about how to comfort someone that doesn't understand what love is, or what even life is. As far as single parenting is concerned, they go more by the time you have to spend with them (the kids) and what you can offer them in your home. The classes are a little wierd but do have a lot of good points. Good luck. It is definitely a life experience that you won't find anywhere else.

hello my name is C. Im a mother of five. My husband a i went thru the fostor and adoption process in Coweta county last year. We are adoptioning but it's all the same pretty much. You'll get in touch with your county and there alot of paper work you'll have to fill out. You'll have to have drug test,medicial physicial,TB testing. You have to be finger printed. The class is a 20 hour class held at defferant times so you can pick on that fits you. Being a mom most of the stuff in the class is stuff you already know but that class is mandatory. Its a process but well worth it and it's for single parents also. The need is out there. So good luck
