Hello all,

I am really a grandmomma. But my daughter is getting married soon and I need to find clear (Xmas type) lights to use at her reception. I am a clearance shopper and would have bought them directly after xmas but they hadn't set a date yet so... I didn't and now I am mad at myself! I will look at rummage sales this summer but does anybody have any other sources for about 20 sets of lights!

Thanks,

bigmomms

Hello! You might want to consider ebay. I just looked and there's 199 matching items to the 'clear chrsitmas lights' that I typed in! Here's the link:

Hope that helps!

Hi M.!

I've seen stuff like that at Goodwill and Salvation Army before and usually very inexpensive. I'd try that. Also, you could get on your www.freecycle.com for your area and request them of your community members. Are you familiar with freecycle? It's an awesome site where all the people in your county give away things, trade things, etc. It's a fantastic resource. You might be able to take care of a lot of the wedding things using this resource. Even if you had to pay a small fee it wouldn't be anything like going to a retail store.
God bless your daughter... and you for putting the wedding on for her on a single mom budget.

I had a winter wedding and decided for an evening wedding. I went with mostly candles instead of flowers. It is cheaper but you have to remember to set up someone to light all the candles before the ceremony. (My brother did this after he ushered.) I felt that ribbons and candles were much cheaper than flowers. I had two boquets and two arrangements, that's it. I was more than happy. Also, there is a new thing with the unity candles. Now I guess it is sand. I believe people are using different colors. The idea came from my friend. Her husband comes from a different country so he got sand from there and she got sand from here. But it's a really neat idea.
My church already had christmas lights for around the windows that we used. We also purchased garland for over the entrance way to the church.

Try www.craigslist.org
Also, perhaps your church members or neighbors have some lights and you can req. to borrow them. People love to help w/ a wedding. Try Michaels and check Michaels and AC Moore on line. Good luck.
I was on a very tight budget and what I did was got vases for $1.00 and purchased bouquets and split them among the tables. And I ordered my wedding food from Golden Coral - it was so CHEAP! And good. We also put a plastic tray on the center of e. table with crackers and cheese (w/ vase in middle). If you belong to a church you can probably use the hall for free. I can squeeze a nickel till it "poops" so I am loaded with ideas, feel free to write.

What about borrowing lights from a local business owner you know, or you neighbors? It wouldn't take much to mark a small peice of tape to each one with the owners name on it. I know it sounds like a lot of work, but if you want cheap, it would fit the budget!
Blessings to ya!

Mangelsen's I think also would have lights still. At least they used to have a Christmas section year round. I don't know if they would be on sale, or not, but it wouldn't hurt to look.

I would try Nobbies 120th & Center, Omaha or the store in Bellevue - they have a ton of Party stuff including wedding supplies and are always willing to help with ideas.

Good Luck with the search.

Hi M.,
When I did my wedding I got alot of the decorations from orientaltrading.com. They are inexpensive there. As far as the lights I am not sure if there is a christmas store anywhere that would have them. I just came from vacation at Myrtle Beach SC and they have a Christmas store there that is open year round.

Good Luck

I have all kinds of ideas!!!I am also like you. I have 4 grown children and 10 grandchildren with one on the way. I have had 2 big weddings for my children on a very limited budget. Here is my ideas-First buy white lites, these are elegant, plus very pretty. If possible make your own wedding cake, there are several cake books that you can buy at Wal-mart. Next make your own centerpieces also at Wal-mart. If you are planning a meal-have family pitch in and cook all your own food. Decorations can be made at home. And go to Dollor stores-they have all sorts of ideas and materials that will make a wedding look professionally done. Let me know what you think. I will be waiting to hear from you. Good luck.
