Hi,
Does anyone know a good chiropractor on the NW side of town? I live in 78240. I've tried two chirpractors so far, both on the south side and didn't care for either one. I am looking for one that isn't going to ask me for x-rays, and is punctual. I just don't have time to be stuck in a waiting room for an hour. Oh, and affordable. I have hip and knee pain. The knee pain is either from the hips or from my sciatic nerve.

Last time I went to the chiro and told him that after I tailor sit on the floor I have a hard time getting up - (I'm only 35 and didn't have this trouble until after my 2nd child was born). He told me "don't do that". Which aggravated me, because I have a 1 and 3 year old and not sitting on the floor isn't really an option.

Thanks
L.

Hi L.,
I stopped going to my wonderful chiropractor, and she truly was good, but it takes so long, many visits to get complete relief. Those visits add up to a lot of $$$. A few years ago I was told about a massage therapist that beats chiropractors hands down, but I didn't believe it, until I wrenched my back, and started to see my chiropractor, but then as the need for more visits over the following two weeks started to run up my bill, I considered this massage therapist. This guy has "golden hands". He does a full body massage for an hour and a half for about $75, sometimes he charges less, and one visit was all is took. Within the next couple of days, all my pain was gone. I have been to him about four times, my husband has been once (with excrutiating back pain), and I have taken my daughter (age 18) several times, as she is a pole vaulter and would land wrong on the mat and hurt her back. One visit per incident, and that's all. He has doctors, judges and other prominent people seeing him, and even some fly in from out of state. He works out of his home. His garage has been turned into his office, and his wife is real sweet. He is located off of Military Hwy. near Lackland. I live out Hwy 281 past Loop 1604, but it is well worth the drive. He also keeps you quite amused, as he is quite the comedian. His name is Hector Gomez, and can be reached at ###-###-####. He sees patients Tuesdays through Saturdays.Give him a call. You'll be glad you did. Let me know if you go and how it turns out. If they don't answer the phone, just leave word, and they will call you back.

Hi L.,

I have been going to a chiropractic practice (2 chiropractors, 2 massage therapists, 1 physical therapist) that I love. They do take x-rays but they are thorough with their exams and questions about your whole health. I feel they got at the heart of my problem and its getting better. I also haven't noticed a long wait time. It is central SA - Alamo Heights Chiropractic Health Center @ 4501 McCullough Ave 78212 ###-###-####.

My last chiro I saw I liked everything except he told me the same thing. I have always been able to sit crosslegged on the floor and for no obvious reason I can't and he told me "don't do that and maybe you aren't able to do that anymore". I am a preschool teacher so its difficult not to sit on the floor. I have also done alot of work at home with stretches and exercises, invested in a temprapedic mattress topper as well as pillow and before the mattress, used to sleep w/a body pillow. Using the mattress topper, there is no need for the body pillow. My brother-in-law and his wife used to see chiropractors for their back and knee problems but they decided to invest in a temprapedic bed and they don't see chiropractors any more - a trade off in $$$ in the long run.

Hope this helps,

C.

Hi L.,

I have a fabulous Chiropractor that I used in the past however I do not need him nearly as much anymore and let me tell you why!!! I started taking (as did friends) something called "Joint Solutions". I have a home based business and this is one of the products that we market. I wanted to see if what they said about it was really true so I bought some. My partner who has had many injuries swears by it as she can get out of bed in the mornings without the pain. Her mother who has arthritis is now trying to get all of her friends to buy it because she has not had any pain since she started taking it. If you would like to visit my website to learn more about the product it is: www.fhtmus.com/mazz ... Click on "True Essentials" and when it takes you to that website, click on "Shop TE". It is the joint solution. It's fantastic as are all of their products. Since I left Corporate World I would get sick if the kids even sneezed on me. After I started taking the womens vitamins, I have not been sick once. I didn't even get that horrible stomach virus that my boys got!! Whew!!!! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions ###-###-####!

Well, I'm afraid I'm not much help on the chiropractor. I can tell you, though, that I went through the same thing after my first baby. After having my hips adjusted several times, I finally had my doctor tell me I should be going to physical therapy. The physical therapist told me the adjustments were only a temporary fix, and by continuously putting my hips through that I was prolonging the problem, and keeping the muscles from tightening back up to hold things in place. After going to physical therapy a few times, they gave me a handout with the strengthening excersizes on it to continue on my own. My hips don't give trouble anymore! (I also invested in a therapeudic mattress to take some of the pressure off my hips at night, and sleep with a little pillow between my knees. That's helped a lot too.) Hope this provides some insight, at least!

Hi L. -

I've lived all over the United States and have had chiropractic care everywhere. The best chiropractor I've EVER been to is here is San Antonio. His name is Dean Odmark and his practice is located on the north side of town on Bitters just off 281. I've never had such CONSISTENT and COMPETENT care anywhere. Their office is a warm and inviting place. And although he does not schedule appointments, their are lots of choices of times to be adjusted. The longest I've ever waited is about 20 minutes. Here is the link to their newly redesigned website. The initial consultation is free - why not give it a try?

Have you tried a good physical therapist? It could be due to a tight ITband (outer thight muscle). This muscle extends from the hip to the outer part of the knee. You might just benefit from some stretching and strengthening that you can do at home, once taught correctly.
