Hello Moms,

Now that it is getting colder out many of the things that I used to do on the weekends with my daughter aren't an option anymore. The beaches and outdoor pools are closed, if it is raining/snowing we can't go to an outdoor park, etc. So I guess my question is a two part question:

1. What types of activities do you do in the winter on the weekends with your children. Please be as specific as you can - such as, if you go sledding, where is a good place that you have found? If you go to an indoor pool, what pool is a good one? Etc.

2. Where do you go to look for "special" activities that are going on. For example, if there is a festival in a certain city or a certain type of nature place activity, what web sites do you go to in order to find out what is happening?

Thanks for all your help! I just want to plan ahead for the upcoming cold weekends we are sure to see in not too long!!

We have memberships to the Science Museum and Zoo and plan on making good use of them this winter. Since you have a 2-year-old, the Children's Museum might be a good choice.
Local libraries have story times and activities. You can look up your closest one online. Many of them post their story times and activities on their website.
I have heard there are lots of fun ECFE classes for little ones. Again, you would have to look up your local information online at www.ecfe.info.
We go to the YMCA. I get to work out and my kids get to play. It's a nice break for everyone and most locations have a pool and swim lessons. My boys love swimming.
I don't know where in Minneapolis you are, but you should look into your nearest community center. I know Maple Grove has a great indoor pool that is a lot of fun for people of all ages.
Good luck!!!

We have a membership to the Children's Museum. A family membership is $80, and if you go a few times a year it usually pays for itself.

Check out your local ECFE for tons of fun classes, activities, and special events.

And lastly, our MOMS Club is super active, with things on the calendar pretty much every day. Activities range from simple things like playgroups and potlucks, to mall playlands and even bigger outings like a mom-kid shopping excursion to IKEA and the MN zoo. Check out momsclub.org to find your chapter.

We enjoy the Maple Grove Community center, they have a Maze and in door pool. we also enjoy the Monticllo community center which has a small maze and indoor pool.
If it is just a quick get the wiggles out trip we may just go to Burger king or Mcdonalds with a indoor playset.
Hope these ideas help out.

In St. Paul--the Minnesota Science Museum, and Children's Museum

In Minneapolis--Mill City Museum and Walker Art Museum

Check with the Community Centers and "Park and Recreation" Centers in the Communities around you. They often have open gym for kids during the day and in the evening. ECFE often has activities.

Publications--Minnesota Parent and Explore Minnesota have lots of special events. Also, Three Rivers Park District always has classes and special events.
