Hello Mom's!

I'm seeking an OB/GYN in Austin. My husband has accepted a job offer in Austin. We live in San Francisco, and I'm 7 1/2 months pregnant and we'll be moving pretty soon. My baby is due August 16th. I'll take any recommendations on OB's, hospitals, and even Ped. Doctors. Not quite sure where we will be living but do know it'll be in North Central Austin. Thank you all so much for you help, I truly appreciate it. :)

Love my OB/GYN in central Austin. Dr. Jerald Mankovsky. It is a one man show so you get very personal attention. I have been going there for 10 years and he delivered my one and only son via C-Section 2 years ago. I barely have a scar, he did a great job. He can be a little old fashioned but he is very caring. He only delivers at St. Davids. Also happy with my Ped. Dr. William Caldwell. He is very well known in Austin and lots of my friends take their kids to him. He runs a busy practice and is on the old side but is very attentive. They can be a little on the cautious side about things but I prefer that to not taking my concerns seriously.

Good luck and welcome to Austin.

The group at Austin Regional Clinic is the best! My doctor was Dr. Chalasani. She delivered all 3 of my kids. In the group, there is Drs. Solomon, Hughes, Brasher-Giles, Lockey and maybe others that I have missed. I have seen most of them at one time or another and they are all wonderful. They deliver at Seton Northwest. Good Luck!

Hi there R.,
Welcome to Austin! We use TreeHouse Pediatrics (Dr. Anselmo Unite); but all of the doctors there are absolutely wonderful! We love the fact that this pedi office have both a well child waiting room and a sick child waiting room. The waiting areas don't share anything (toys, chairs, books, restroom, etc). Treehouse Pediatrics is located in NW Austin/Round Rock off of FM 620 between Parmer and IH-35.

My OBGYN is in the Oakwoods Women's Center, also off of FM 620. I use Dr. Mark Maunder. He has a GREAT bedside manner, as do all the other doctors in that practice.

Congrats on your move and on your new addition,
A. W.

Patrick Peveto is an AWESOME OB/Gyn...he is at Seton Northwest and that is a great hospital to deliver in. I had both of my sons there...rooms are nice and big and staff is great. It is not a big hospital so not as noisy as some.

Ross Prochnow is our Pediatrician and we love him as much as we love Dr. Peveto. He is at Austin Regional Clinic on Braker and 183. We also love Dr. Greer at the same practice if we cant get in to see Dr. Prochnow. My boys are 2 1/2 and 17 months and they actually get excited when I say we are going to the Dr.

Good Luck to you...I cant imagine having to find a new Dr. this far in to your pregnancy. I could guarantee you would like Dr. Peveto. Just be warned, that as with any good Dr., schedule first thing in the morning or first thing after lunch if you can to avoid long waits.

I would highly recommend my ob/gyn. I go to Melanie Collins with the Women's Renaissance Group (www.rwgdocs.com). I delivered my 22 month old at North Austin Medical Center. Also, any of the pediatricians with Austin Regional Clinic are good. My pediatrician is located in Pflugerville, but the dr that came to check on my daughter in the hospital was from the Round Rock office & we really liked him as well. Hope this helps!!

I have gone to Dr. Karen Swenson for years and love her! Her office is located in Central A. on 34th street close to Seton Hospital. I delivered both of my children at Seton and had a wonderful experience both times.

Here's the website for Dr. Swenson. The practice is Women Partners in Health. I think you would be happy with any of the doctors in the practice.

http://www.wpih.net/

Click on Our Providers to read about her. Also, I have a friend that sees Dr. Nash and loves her as well.

As far as Pediatricians both of my children have gone to Dr. Mirrop since they were born. You will be very happy with him (as well as any of the doctors in the practice). Dr. Mirrop is so thorough and takes the time to listen. He has called me at home (or had his nurse call) several times when my kiddos were very sick, just to check in and see how they were doing. The practice is Pediatric Associates:
http://www.pediatricassociates.net/index.html

They are also centrally located on 38th street.

Congratulations to you and welcome back to Texas!

I really like North Austin OB/GYN with Dr. Sebastian. She has privileges at North Austin Medical Center and I love the maternity ward, which is also in the process of expanding. I had all my babies there and had a great experience with all of them. Dr. Nichols is great too for a pedi reference. She is also located at North Austin Medical Center. She's very hip and down to earth and I love that she is great with my kiddos but also inquires on me too as the mom. All the pedi's there are really good, but I have not had a great experience with Dr. Tache. Just an FYI. Happy Moving and Welcome back!

Lots of good OB's and Pedi.'s in this area, so I'm sure you'll receive tons of responses. Hi R.,
I highly recommend Dr. Melissa Guzman-Winn. She is fantastic and delivered my first son. She was recommended to me by a delivery nurse, and they see how doctors really are behind the scenes. She always makes the best decisions for her patients and is very forthcoming and awesome.
As far as Ped doctors, i love my doctor- Dr. William Caldwell. He's been voted a Texas Super doctor forever and is an amazing doctor.
Hope this helps and take it easy with the move.

If you'd like an OB with a midwife mentallity (had midwife for first child OB for second) try Dr. Love with St.David's. Despite being male (he was the first male gyn I ever went to) He is amazing! Also one of the few OB's in the Austin area who is a proponent of natural childbirth and the Bradley method.

Her office is at St. Davids and she delivers there. Her # is ###-###-####. I have been having a hard time finding a Pedi that accepted our insurarnce but I think we are going with Capital Pediatrics. They have seven doctors in the practice and have two locations, one central and one north. I have heard really good things about them. Good Luck on your move and your search.

WElcome back to Texas. I really like Dr. Christina Sebestyen as she really respects her patients and works with them to have the type of delivery they want. She also has just gotten midwives approved for her hospital to work with her (Midwives were not allowed in Austin hospitals for the last 6+ years). She is located right next to North Austin Medical Center on Mopac, near Parmer.
Good luck,

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my doctor. Her name is Dr. Brasher-Giles and she is located at Seton Northwest. I have a high strung personality and she is so even-kieled and reassuring. I found I really needed that during my pregnancy. I also had to have an emergency ceserean and she was wonderful to my husband and my family during that very scary process--not to mention how quickly and effeciently she responded to my situation--I was in great hands. I also want to mention that I really liked her nurse as well--always so welcoming and very knowledgable when I had questions.

If you move near Cedar Park and happen to deliver at Cedar Park Regional then try out Dr. Jennifer Meadows.
I am 8 1/2 months pregnant and switched doctors and hospitals in my 7th month. She is in a temporary office right now but will be next to the hospital soon. The new hospital is great! It's quiet, clean and doesn't smell like a hospital yet. :-)
You should go take a tour! If you are looking for some great neighborhoods, I suggest checking out a few on Parmer Ln between 620 and 1431. They are in Round Rock and Leander ISD.
Good luck and welcome back.

Hey!
I go to Nancy Binford ###-###-####. She is wonderful! She's very thorough and has a very soothing, calm manner about her.

She didn't deliver my two kiddos but I go to her now and know a few women who did have babies delivered by her - they said she was great! She inserted an IUD for me and it went perfectly.

I delivered my babies at St. David's on 32nd street right in town - near the UT campus. The nurses there are incredible! I had a wonderful experience there both times. I heard the same from other women who delivered there.

Good Luck!!!

I really like my Ob/Gyn, I've been going to her for over 2 years. She has delivered 3 of my friends' babies, and will be delivering mine in November. I believe she's in her late 30's, early 40's and I know she has 2 young daughters. She's in Central Austin and she delivers at Seton on 38th. It's right across from their office. Her name is Dr. Oliver and she's part of the Women Partner's in Health group, their website is http://www.wpih.net/ I'm fairly sure they take most insurance too. Hope this helps!

I go to Dr. Robert Cowan with Austin Area OB/GYN. They are right next to Seton on 38th Street. It's a fairly large practice and all of the doctors are very good. I haven't heard anything negative about any of them. Dr. Cowan was with me through two pregnancies, a miscarriage and a hysterectomy. He's compassionate, thorough and always willing to take all the time I need to ask questions and to understand anything that I'm going through. (Blessedly I have been in wonderful health since the hysterectomy.) The number is ###-###-####.

Our pediatrician is down south, so that's probably not where you'll be wanting to go! But she is part of the Austin Diagnostic Clinic which has offices all around the city - and their weekend clinic (we've been there many times - why do the kids only get really sick on Saturday?!?) is up off Mopac and Braker.

Hope this helps! Welcome back to Texas!!!

Dr. Robert Cowan!! I too switched cities and doctors in the middle of my 1st pregnancy and was so fortunate enough to have been recommended Dr. Cowan. I love him and all of his nurses and consider them friends. I went from a rushed, barely give you enough time place in Houston to a practice that sits and talks to you and really makes you feel comfortable. The delivery was so fantastic and easy with Dr. Cowan (right next to the hospital so even some of his nurses came over). I am now pregnant with #2 and am not at all worried about anything because I know Dr. Cowan is there for me as well as his staff. Please email me if you have any questions. You will be safe, secure, happy and at ease with him. Good luck on your move too. I live in Allandale in north central Austin and his practice and the hospital are close and convenient which helps too.

Pediatricians - I use Capital Pediatrics (Dr. Sandra Treybig) and just love them too. They are very near Seton area on 39th. I had some issues with baby #1 and we were there almost weekly. They were fantastic!! And still are! Open on Saturdays which is nice because things always seem to happen on Friday. ###-###-####. Best to you!!

Dr. Meadows has proven to be unprofessional in both her professional and business dealings with us. We are expecting our second child and had a wonderful OB for our first delivery. Dr. Meadows has made us wait up to two hours for a scheduled appointment while patients who were not scheduled got straight in. It is very frustrating to get into the office for a five minute visit at three o'clock and be the last one out of the office while she deals with other things. In addition, the afterhours number she gives forwards to a clinic. And when I was 33 weeks pregnant and too late to find another doctor she made me sign a paper saying there was an additional $50 fee that insurance would not pay for her to fill out two short forms. One for my maternity leave and another for disability, both standard forms that are required by my job and both short enough that my last doctor filled them out in one minute while I waited. Unprofessional is an understatement.
