I am in my 29th week of my first pregnancy and my Dr's office sent me home with my hospital registration package yesterday. I'm at the point where I have to pick a pediatrician for my daughter. We live in Gilbert by the new SanTan mall and I would like something relatively close if I can but I am delivering in Scottsdale. I am under the impression that the pediatrician will care for my daughter after she is born? at the hospital? Can any of you recommend a great doctor that you know or think has Scottsdale access?
I start my birthing class tomorrow with Jessica Wild (that many of you recommended to me... thank you for that), so I'm hoping she might have some info as well.
Thank you in advance for your suggestions. I really look forward to catching up on my mamasource every morning.

What can I do next?

Gilbert Pediatrics never goes to hospitals. Some do, some don't. But, my three babies have always been seen by the on-staff pediatricians and it's never been a problem. You just make an appointment with your regular doctor for a couple of days after the baby is born (obviously you won't know until it happens :)
The hospital doctor just checks for jaundice, birth deformities, etc. I think you're fine going with the in-house.

I also live in Gilbert and delivered at Scottsdale Shea last summer. I was never able to find a Gilbert pediatrician that I liked who would go that far north. Also, I didn't want to chose a doctor who we would more than likely stay with for 10+ years based on the fact that they see my child for 3 days in the hospital. I ended up using the on call pediatricians at Scottsdale Shea and was absolutely thrilled with all of the care that my baby & received during our stay.

If you're looking for a good Gilbert ped we have been using Katherine Krieg. She came highly recomended to us and we've been very satisfied over the past year.

Best of luck!

Hi A.,

I ended up having eclampsia with seizures when I had my daughter who is now 11. I was air-evacked to Good Sam in Phoenix. I did not have a pediatrician at the time but the head Dr. there recommended I take her to Dr. Gary Auxier. He said he is the best. So, that is who all of my children see. He is in the same office as Dr. Levitt and Dr. Guthrie, and as someone said before they are all wonderful Dr.'s. Gilbert Pediatrics is located on Greenfield and Baseline. Don't worry about the in house Dr.'s at the hospital...they will take good care of her until she is released to go see your regular pediatrician. Yes, they do have an office at Power Ranch as well.

Good luck and Congrats!
M.

I have four teenage boys but when I was looking for a Pediatrician, I talked to a neo-natal specialist she works with them so she knows all the ones around the valley. She suggested Gilbert Pediatricts. in fact she takes her very own kids there. Dr Guthery and Dr. Leavett are the best. She said 1,000 to one if there is something wrong with a baby or child they'll get it before any other ped in the valley. She followed these two doctors through their residencies! I called them and set up an appointment with them for an interview. I took my questions in hand to it. I had to stop seeing them because they quit taking my insurance. I cried for weeks! Now they have even added a nurse practioner and I've heard another doctor. My cousin will only take her kids there and they they aren't on her husbands insurance so she pays out of pocket because to her it is THAT important to her that they are her kid's doctors.
I don't know about the hospital part but you can just ask them when you meet them or call them. I don't remember where they are located I'm thinking,Guadalupe and Higley maybe? Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Mesa Pediatrics is a FANTASTIC practice. My daughter sees Dr. De Mets. I am a first-time mom as well. They are at Pecos and Higley. Check out their website at mesapeds.com. You can give birth at your hospital of choice and use their pediatricians while you are in the hospital. That is what we did. You don't have to have your permanent doctor see you and the baby at the hospital. Just have an appointment set up with the new doc before you discharge. CONGRATS!!!! It is an amazing journey you and your family are about to embark on. One bit of advice...TRUST YOUR MOMMY GUT!!!!! Good luck!!! If you have any questions contact me at ____@____.com. -S.

Congratulations and Good Luck with everything. I just delivered at a Hospital that my Pediatrician does not make visits too, but it wasn't a problem. The hospital has their own Pediatrician on staff to check out the babies that won't have a ped. coming in. I just took her in 2 days later to visit with her regular pediatrician. I wouldn't worry too much about finding a Dr. that will visit the hospital as much as I would worry about finding a Pediatrician that you will love!

I had a wonderful experience at Desert Ridge CHildrens Center near Tatum and the 202. I would drive from East Mes to there - they were that good. However, they are not covered with my husband's new insurance :-( www.desertridgechildrenscenter.com

Congratulations on your baby girl! I live right near you at Higley and Ray. As others have said, I don't think you'll find a doctor here that will go up to Shea, so just use the in house doctors and see your pediatrician within a day or two of discharge.

I go to Mesa Pediatrics at Higley and Pecos and couldn't be happier. They have given both my girls awesome care. The doctor has called me directly just to follow up with me about my daughter and a bump she has growing on her knee. We see Dr. Demets, but absolutely love the entire staff there.

I can tell you who to stay away from:
Happy Kids Pediatrics committed fraud
East Mesa Pediatrics tried to get me to pay for visits that my insurance had already paid for

and care at both offices were sub-par

I was in this same position with our first 4 children. Here's the scoop: You'll pick a pediatrician in Gilbert and they will see your baby for the 2 day well visit etc. You can get a list of pediatrician's on your insurance that go to Scottsdale Shea/Osborn. Otherwise, what usually happens is that the on-call pediatrician will examine your baby. We chose Dr. Tracy Drummond for our ped. and just put her name on our admittance forms. You can also ask the labor/delivery area or your OB dr. for a ped. recommendation. Just print out the list of docs on your insurance for the Scottsdale area and ask the hospital or your OB. It worked out just fine for us. Just make sure to ask for a copy of the medical info on your baby so you can take it to your Gilbert ped. Good Luck.

I dont think you will find a Doc. from Gilbert that will go to Scottsdale but thats ok just use the in house Docs they dont do much and you will only see them for like 10min total the whole time your at the hospital. I want to recomend Gilbert Peds they are great all the Dr and staff rock. I have 4 kids and Dr. Leavitt is there primary dr. but we have been seen by all the Dr. in the practice for sick visits ect.when hes not avalible. they all take the time to sit and talk to you and answer any questions you have I love them and would never take my kids anywhere else. they are located on Baseline and Greenfield and have a new office in power ranch also. they also have after hour care mon-sat from 6pm-11pm which is great so you can avoid the ER.
