My husband and I are looking to get a puppy for our family. We have a 10 yr old daughter and a 3 yr old daughter. We are looking for a smaller to medium size breed. Something that doesn't shed alot and is good with children and travel. We need help on how to find the right breeder, dog, etc. It doesn't have to be a pure bred, but we do definitely want a puppy we can train ourselves. I appreciate any help/advice you can give! Thank you!!

So What Happened?

We found a very reputable breeder and have gotten our new beautiful puppy, Lexi, a Jack Russell Terrier! The girls are so thrilled and she is wonderful! Thank you for all of your help, advice and support! It was greatly appreciated!

I just heard on KRLD that Operation Kindness has a 6 month old lab mix up for adoption (her name is Brook if you want to call and ask about her)- they said she will get to be about 50-60 pounds - is that too big? Labs are FANSASTIC animals - we have 2, and a 13 mo daughter. They LOVE each other. Operation Kindness is in Carrollton - they are a great facility - I suggest you give them a try (they're located in Carrollton).

Hello T.,

Perhaps I can help you... A friend of mine just found out that her dog is pregnant. She is actually due in 4 weeks...
She is not a pure breed as far as I know. I believe she is half lab and half some smaller dog.
My friend has two kids (a girl 5, and a boy 18 months) and Casey, the dog, is great with both of them.
Since she won't be able to keep any of the puppies she has started looking for a loving home for each one of them...
Let me know if you are interested... I have some pictures I can email to you or give you my friend's phone number and you can talk directly to her.

Have a great night!

I have to second petfinder or any type of shelter/rescue organization.
We have found 2 of the absoulute best dogs and a wonderful kitty at the shelters.
Both dogs were medium sized dogs, already spayed (so they only cost $25) trained, housebroken, wonderful with my children and we couldn't have been happier to save a dogs life and get such great ones!

Some of the shelters update the dogs on ALL vaccines before leaving the shelter and the dogs are vet checked. A few that I know of are the Rowlett Shelter and Garland Animal Services.
I'm sure there are many more but those are the ones I know of.

I hope you and your family are able to find the perfect doggy!

Hey there,
Have you tried the shelters? This is a good place to pick up a puppy and pretty cheap. And their condition has already been assessed and treated, and they will give their shots as part of the price you pay to adopt. There are so many good little animals out there that just desperately need a good home, please go take a look at least and consider saving one of them. And, also, I would stay away from the expensive ones in a pet store, they dont take very good care of their animals.
Good Luck, I hope you find something loveable..............
Debbie

Check out Frisco Humane Society...they will be at PetsMart in Frisco this weekend. Also, you can look at Lost Paws Rescue of Texas. They mainly deal with small breeds (alot of purebreds.) Best of Luck.
