Hello Moms,

We will be away for Thanksgiving and need to either board our cat, or have a petsitter stop by to feed/water a couple of days over the holiday. We're moving into the area and are at an extended stay hotel - the staff is ok w/someone visiting for this purpose. Any suggestions? Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks, everyone, for your help. The hotel was going to help us with this...unfortunately, Kasha took a turn for the worse - she's had renal failure - non-symptomatic/living like a normal kitty - for almost 7 years (5 years longer than expected). She had to be put on fluids while I was there, which was going to be for the rest of her life (so I wasn't going to be able to transport her). I visited her as soon as I got there, and again the next day, as we couldn't take her to the apartment because we were moving our stuff. She passed away in her sleep the evening after I visited her and played with her, as though she'd been waiting for me.

Have you checked with any of the staff to see if they might need some holiday cash on the side? Presumably they already have access for cleaning and visit the room once per day. They might be grateful for the opportunity.

Hi P.,
Welcome to Texas. I am not sure where you are at the moment, but downtown Plano has a business called Pets Are Inn. They offer in-home pet sitters. I am sorry, but do not have their telephone number, but the are in the phone book as well as online. If your cat is healthy with up-to-date shots, it's a very reasonable alternative. Also, some vets have boarding as well as some grooming shops. If you go to yahoo and type in pet sitters, they will provide a list with ratings, google, too. Good luck.

We have used a petsitter, Beth from BirdDogCatFish, and she is wonderful (we have two large dogs). She is a former MOntessori teacher and she loves animals of all kinds. I don't remember exactly what she charged us, but her rates were reasonable. We've used her at least twice, I think 3 times.

Her phone number is ###-###-####.
