Seeking Venues Where I Can Jumpstart a Business

I am looking for various resources or venues such as craft shows and/or offices in which I can sale various items that I create. I am not real sure on how to network locally and could use some advice. If anyone knows of any place in which corporate offices have vendors come in during the work week and sale items, that would be so helpful as I have one place I go to on occasion, but looking to spread out some. Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

American Airlines Southern Reservation Office near 360 and FAA road used to always have a bunch of vendors come in on payday. There were craft items, jewelry vendors, clothing, hair accessories, massages, etc. lining the aisles in the atrium. I haven't worked there in years, but had a chance to go back and visit about 18 months ago. It wasn't planned, but it was on payday. The vendors were there. I would call American Airlines reservations (800-321-2121....wow! I still have that memorized!) and ask for the SRO actvities director. They may have to search, but someone should be able to help you. Good luck! P.S. Don't forget about Traders Village, too.

I used to work in the Carter*Burgess building in downtown Fort Worth, and they occasionally will have (or at least used to have) craft and gift type "shows" on their mezzanine level. They would advertise for a couple weeks before, so everyone knew to bring their gift lists. No idea how to go about getting involved, and I can't remember who manages that property for them... but the building is located at 777 Main Street, Fort Worth, 76102.

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but there used to be a craft mall called Coomer's, where you can rent out a booth. It is in Richland Hills on Baker.

There are a lot of craft fairs, church events etc in the metroplex, some more lucrative than others. We are getting ready to produce the 3rd annual Everything Babyfest in the FW Will Rogers Memorial center and have kept the exhibit level booth price low so that people just getting started can afford to show thier stuff and moms can see a lot of great stuff in one place. We have 100 vendors and we do offer our specialty vendors exclusivity. Visit www.everythingbabyfest.com to get an idea of some of the vendors and look at the prices on the sponsorship page. You can email me about what you are making and see if we can help you get a booth for the event. We are expecting (not promising of course) about 5,000 people for this event. This is also a great place for money conscious new parents to shop and we also have a cutest baby photo contest with the winner getting over $400 in gifts and a cover photo on Modern Babies and Children magazine. You can find me at the Nestingplace or email me at ____@____.com

Hi Lara,
I'm in the same position you're in and have been trying to research things like this, even keeping my eye on local churches or schools for their craft fairs. My neighbor owns a furniture store and he set up a booth at a vendor fair last year, I didn't know about it til after the fact. I'm going to ask him "how do you find out about these things?". He's so busy and hardly home, but I will definitely ask him the nest time I catch him. I'm in SW Fort Worth. I know there was another lady on here that was looking for the same thing. Maybe we can get a group together and get our own thing going if we can find someone to accommodate us. Just a thought.
I'll let you know what I find out.

Lara,

I always envy people that are artistic, creative and crafty, that's great that you are. My daughter's told me about this website - www.etsy.com. It is a site that profiles people like you and my daughter's have already ordered from this site. It was also featured in the Wall Street Journal Small Business video that I just saw yesterday. I don't know what you need to do to register as a vendor, but I'm sure it won't be too much. Good luck. Hope it will be of help!

The Dallas City Plaza building allows vendors to set up at the entrance and sell crafts. I am not sure the cost. You might also try looking on Craig's list for upcoming shows you can buy a booth at. Good luck with your venture and Congratulations on your first move to being self-employed.
