Hello Moms,
I am a pastor's wife. My church and about 50 of us relocated from Cali to Texas. Just about all of us quit our jobs, sold everything and made a leap of faith to come out here to a land we know little about. I have a few single moms who live in Arlington who need resources such as childcare, transporation, furniture, food and clothes, and most importantly a job. The latter has not been easy to secure. I found a good resource in Burleson (where a few of my ladies live) but can't seem to find it in Arlington. Do you have any suggestions who I can connect these special ladies and their families with?

What can I do next?

Hello Y. B:
Welcome to Texas. We made that move in 1996. For food, clothing, furniture, check out the Mission of Arlington (google for tel#).

Employment: Texas Office of the Attorney General Child Support Division (and other divisions may be) is hiring but you must register w/Texas Workforce Commission(TWC)at www.workintexas.com and complete the State of Texas application ONLINE (they don't accept resumes) and submit it through twc website. Make sure your CATEGORY is Protective Service, then Child Support Missing Persons and your INDUSTRY is Public Administration. For some this process is not user friendly (feel free to contact the # at the site for help). They have offices in dallas, arlington and ft. worth. But once you register and complete the skills, and application, the system will find any jobs matching your skills and experience. TWC will send you an email w/the matches they found for you and you can click on apply or not interested. You can also go the the website at www.oag.state.tx.us and look at the jobs that are available by location. I hope this info is helpful. Again, WELCOME!

About food, the church I attend gives out bags of groceries to families on Thursday mornings and afternoons. You just have to show up. Crossroads Christion Church. www.crossroadschritian.net is the web site if you need further assistance and the address. Good luck and God Bless.

I really don't know much about the resources you're seeking. I just wanted to say: "Welcome to Texas".
(I was born in Dallas, but spent from ages 6 - 17 in California,(Oroville, Concord, and Pittsburg to be precise) moving with Daddy's job. The good Lord brought us back to Texas just in time for me to meet my husband (now of nearly 29 years.)
Y'all might try looking at the job listings for various municipalities.
I have a cousin who works in Arlington, but leaves pretty far from there. I will ask her if she knows of anything. Also, some of the ladies on our 3-Day team live in Arlington, so I will ask them and get back to you with any lead.
I know that you'll all find what God has for you, because He won't lead you to what He won't carry you through!
again "WELCOME TO TEXAS, Y'ALL!!"

Y., I really admire you and your friends for doing something so courageous. You will find Texas a very friendly
state and as we say, "if you don't like the weather, wait 10
min. and it will change".

I am responding to your childcare request. I have been a childcare provider for 18 years w/ an added bonus of a pre-
school curriculum. I have an opening and wanted to provide
you with my tel# if you would like more information. I belong
to two Childcare Associations. Arlington Area ChildCare Provider Support Group (www.choosehomechildcare.com). There's
over 50 members listed by zipcodes. We are Registered by the
State and dedicated to training classes each month. I also
belong to Mansfield Childcare Assoc. (Mansfield Childcare
Association.com)

If you would like to call for more information, my # is ###-###-####

Good luck with your mission, I know you will make a difference.

Have you heard of Angel Food Ministries? It's a program that anyone can use. The website is http://www.angelfoodministries.com/default.asp
They have a menu every month that anyone can order from. You get the entire menu for 25.00 I believe. This is available pretty much anywhere I believe. I live in Arlington and have done this a couple of times and pick the food up in Mansfield.
