Should I Switch? Comcast vs Verizon Fios

I haven't found a thread about these 2 companies so I'm posting to get some feedback/advice. I think we're paying way too much for cable/phone/internet/wireless right now. We have cable/internet with Comcast and phone/wireless with Verizon. I'm thinking of getting Verizon Fios and bundle it with my Verizon Wireless plan. My friends who have switched to Veriozon Fios, however, have had many complaints about their customer service and not getting good service when repairs were needed. Have any of you had similar problems and regretted switching? I live in Silver Spring, MD.
PS: My DH prefers to keep the home phone, so not having that to save money is not an option for now.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We switched to Verizon Fios. Saves us $80/month for now. Phone line drops quite often, had techs come twice to fix problems but so far, saving money was our priority so we're dealing with it. We also like the DVR menu from Verizon Fios better.

We've been happy with them. We don't have a home phone just our wireless plans thru them and our Internet and FIOS TV. The price was comparable to Comcast. I haven't had a problem with their customer service or tech support directly they've always been friendly on the phone and have always been on time the 2 times they had to come out and correct the problem. The problem lies in that since we have no home phone #, though my husbands cell is linked to the FIOS service, they can never find us in their system thru our phone # and it takes several minutes at best to find our info which is a pain. Why they can't mark our cell as a home phone contact # to access our account is beyond me. But other than that, the service itself is excellent. It is faster than Comcast (my hubby works from home and speed is very important) and it very rarely goes down. I also like that if the power goes out they have a battery back up for internet service (if you have a laptop) doesn't last forever but it covers in a pinch. I've been happy with the switch.

We made the switch a long time ago - basically as soon as they got FIOS in our area. With Comcast we had frequent loss of service with our Internet, we have never had that with FIOS. FIOS seems faster - my husband is a computer programmer and needs fast connection. As far as the tv goes... Since we have switched to the HD box we seem to be experiencing problems with the volume cutting out. We have been in contact with Verizon, but the only reason things are not carrying through are b/c the ball is in our court. They even called the following day to see if the trouble shooting from the previous day had worked or not. Thus far we are happy. Good luck with your decision.

Hello Gillian, I do not have Verizon Fios in my area but I am very familiar with the product. I work for Verizon and everyone that I know, that has Fios, has had nothing but good things to say about it. I see that the majority of your concern is about customer service, The product itself is superior to anything that is out there now and if you are concerned about customer service I can walk you through this process. I am more than willing to help. My name is M. Berry and I am a supervisor at Verizon, my work number is ###-###-####, my hours are 7:30am - 4pm. Give me a call if you have any questions or concerns. I'm willing to helping anyone who needs it. By the way my son will be 18 months next week and he gets into everything too!

We had a HUGE problem with the customer service with Verizon FIOS...we were looking to switch from Cox, but they set up an appt and never showed and never called and really never cared that we were inconvenienced. Unfortunately, I had canceled Cox service for the same day. So, I suggest that you keep your current service until after you've switched. We went back to Cox and had them bundle our services. Also, I call them periodically and enroll in whatever cost-saving program they have. Most likely, Comcast will be able to bundle your services and get you on a deal that will save you some money. I do think FIOS is cheaper, but I cannot deal with them right now!!
