Show Choir - Hairstyle for Short Haired Girl - Help!

Hello! Hoping there are some show choir moms out there...
This is our first year of middle school show choir. All but two of the girls have long hair. Needless to say, those in charge are not wanting to find a hairstyle that will flatter the short haired girls. Their solution is for the short haired girls to just slick ALL of their hair back, leaving them to look bald. My idea is to have ALL of the girls pin their bangs/hair to the side. I realize that uniformity is important in scoring, but so is feeling good about how you look. Self-conscious girls won't perform well. Thoughts or experiences?

What can I do next?

Google "show choir short hair styles".

If/when you find a style that would work for the girls, you'll have to clear it with who ever is in charge (who has the say in how they wear their hair) before they can run with the idea.

It's going to be tough to find one look that will flatter everybody but if they have to go for uniformity/cookie-cutter look then slicking it back might not be a bad option.
It's nothing that a lot of styling gel won't take care of.
They are performing as a group - performers eventually get over 'self-conscious' to a degree to develop self confidence - which is something in middle school that every kid is working on.

Make suggestions but once the person in charge makes a ruling, then pipe down and go with the flow.

How about using a pretty headband, or a ribbon/bow? That way ALL the girls, whether short-haired or long-haired can wear the same style and look uniform, yet pretty (unlike the gelled back look, which is universally unflattering). There is also the option of a barrette clip on the side, or a half-up, half-down style, though I don't know how short the hair is that we're talking about. If it's a pixie cut, that last hairstyle obviously would not work, but anything chin length or longer can work.

I like your idea better. I'd be worried that the girls would look pretty severe with their hair all slicked back, as you say, looking bald. What about a compromise - I saw a talk show recently with the girl from the show Stranger Things (Millie Bobby Brown). She has very short cropped hair for the role. She wears it slicked to side, with or without a clip, and sometimes slicked with a thin pretty plain headband. If you google images of her (or her hairdo) might give you some ideas. Still very feminine. The girls might go for that as well - she's around the same age.

you and the other parents need to work with the director and find a solution that works for all of you.

They can all look like the girls from Robert Plant's "Simply Irresistible"

Good luck!! I hope you are able to reach a compromise that works for all!

Unless the other girls are wearing pony tails and their hair is slicked back from their forehead it still won't look good.

#1 is Kristen Stewart with her hair slicked back. It's a horrible hairstyle and is very harsh. That's what I imagine this style they want to look like.

It would help a LOT if you could find an image of a similar haircut and post a link. That way we could visualize what she has.

If she has bangs and her forehead isn't acne covered then have her play with a few hairstyles where she uses a cute hair pin or something to pull her bangs over. This is a cute way to put bangs off the face. But again, some "thing" in her hair will look obvious and take the judges eyes off the group and onto one individual. Minimal is better.

If she just has a short all over hair style then you could put a matching cloth (not shiny or any reflective material) headband in it. To dress it up a bit.

I looked at your pintrest links. (Why did it post as an answer and not in the so what happened? Weird!)
That hair style they want is horrible! Doesn't look good on anyone at all. Makes me think of Tina Turner's hair in Mad Max. Yuck! It will for certain look worse with the short hair!
I think they need to look more toward a headband or a flower hair clip that everyone can wear and match. Less harsh and more flattering to everyone.

How about everyone wearing the same sparkly/sequined (stretchy) headband that holds back the bangs. The long haired girls can wear their hair in a bun or brain or whatever. The short haired girls can just use the headband alone.

Thanks for all of the great ideas!
To give you an idea of what kind of hair my daughter has, this is similar:

And this is the hairstyle that they are proposing:

I like the suggestions of using a pretty pin or headband on all of the girls so that at least the front of the hair is the same.
The director seems very hands-off and is letting two of the moms run the show...literally. They do not seem concerned with the short haired girls looking attractive, only scoring. There is an element to the short haired girls being "different" and not fitting in as well, so that all plays into this. However, both had short hair when they auditioned!

How about simple matching headbands? If it was a boys' choir would they really worry about making all the boys have the same do?

My first thought is - why are you being a mouthpiece for the short-haired girls? Those young women have voices of their own. Their parents should teach them to self-advocate, but beyond that, you should NOT get involved on their behalf.

Furthermore, leading the short-haired girls to believe that they are going to look ugly with a certain hairstyle, won't do any good for anyone. "Self-conscious girls won't perform well." Okay - so don't be another force in those preteen girls' world that leads them to feel self-conscious.
