Has anyone had any problems with children and Singulair? I think my child is having side effects (she has been on it about 6 months) and she is is 6 years old.

I am an adult, but was just recently started on Singulair. The day I started taking it I had very vidid dreams. I am not usually a big dreamer and these happened every night. I also started itching all over my body and had diarrhea. As soon as I stopped taking it, all of those things stopped. Hope this helps you :)

My nephew will be 12 tomorrow and on it for years with no side effects.

Read the information included in the package with it for side effects, by law they have to list/explain them, if you don't have it then Google the side effects for Singulair, and contact the doctor who prescribed it.

YES! My grandson was given Singulair for his persistent cough. We later discovered that the Singulair CAUSED the cough. Switched to Zyrtec and no problems. Read the side effects and it said may cause a Cough! Have your pediatrician try something else and then you will know!

What kind of side effects? Did you read the label, and do the symptoms your child is experiencing match what the label says are possible side effects? Talk to your child's doctor.

Yes, my son took Singulair (tablet, not sure if there are other forms now) when he was 7 (That was 8 years ago). We were instructed to dose him at bedtime. After a few weeks, I noticed that he complained of his stomach hurting almost every night about 30 minutes after taking the medicine. When it dawned on me that it had happened several nights in a row (not just a random stomach ache), I got out the bottle/packaging/insert and looked at the list of side effects. Stomach pain was listed, but not listed in the "if this happens contact your doctor immediately or go to the ER" section. We discontinued it immediately after.

It wasn't until AFTER all that---(like maybe 2 years later?) that I read online about other side effects. Scary ones. Like suicidal thoughts and serious emotional/psychological side effects. I don't know that my son had any of those... but he wasn't on it very long. Maybe a month, tops.

My daughter only took it once. Within an hour of taking it she had a rash over her entire body, her stomach was cramping and she had diareah. I have been told by numerous people and doctors that people do not have reactions to Singulair and that I must be wrong. However, her doctor saw her and told me to stop it immediately. She has it in her medical records at her doctors office that she is allergic to Singulair. Talk to your doctor about the symptoms you see.

My daughter was on it for seasonal allergies that would lead to asthma symptoms and never had any problems with it. She out grew all that so she was able to stop taking it by 1st grade. She is 11 now and perfectly healthy child. My son at age 18mo started taking it and after a while was having very bad nightmares. Took him off it and they went away, put him back on and they came back. So told my doctor who took him off and told me to use zyrtec or clariten instead. He has an occasional nightmare, but not every night. You just have to try and see what effect it has on 'your' child. Everyone is diff. Just becuz one person gets a side effect doesn' mean your will. When my daughter was on it it kept her Asthma under control which was great becuz asthma meds DEFINITELY have awful side effects.

Oh yes, he had terrible tics after taking it for a while. Too bad because it worked great. Had to go completely off of it.

Singulair made all of my daughter's joints ache. After lots of testing and being cleared, they took her off of it and the joint pain went away.

YES!!! My son started singulair at 18 months. He was an awful toddler. He would bite all the time, althought he was an excellent talker and signer. He would have "fits of rage" in that he would ball up his fists and his whole body would tremble with anger. When he was two and a half, we took him off for the summer because he didn't seem to need allergy meds. He was calmer, sweeter, no more angry fits and stopped biting. Didn't make the connection until we put him back on it in he fall and the terrible behavior came back. When I asked his allergist (after spending one miserable year on this med) he said, "well, some kids react that way." What?!? I was angry and felt guilty for putting my baby through an awful year over a runny nose. Just our experience. Good luck to you!

My daughter was on it from age 6 until maybe 9 (off and on). No side effects. Definitely check with the doc, and read or look up side effects. Hope it turns out to be nothing to worry about!
