Has anyone else been through this or known anyone who has? My sister in law is 37 and pregnant for the 2nd time. Her son is now 13 years old and she was diagnosed with Celiac disease after his birth. She is now 3 1/2 mos pregnant and already looks like she is 7 or 8 mos. pregnant. She is in constant pain and has already been unable to work for 6 weeks. She has been to several different doctors and no one is able to tell her anything. Any advice? She lives in Arizona. Thanks

What can I do next?

I have several family members with Celiac disease, and I have never heard of anything like this. She should be able to mostly control her disease with her diet, and so she needs to see an expert right away (not just any OB will know what is going on).

Yea...sounds to me abnormal..I can't see how this disease would make her belly look so huge already and cause so much pain. But I am not a doctor and would advise her to set up appts with as many as she can until someone can help her.

I would have her seek the opinon of an OB who specializes in high risk pregnancies. This is not normal, and may or may not be related to the celiac disease.

Celiac disease causes pain didn't hear of that.My sis has it she is monitoring her food intake all Gluten free products and her flare ups are really undercontrol with diet food modification and educating herself. What is her response to these DRs she is going to what are they telling her to do?I agree with another post have her see a High Risk OB she may have some other condition that hasn't been detected yet.

I don't think celiac's disease would cause the symptoms you describe. I know that Dr. Andrew Weil has an integrative medicine clinic out in Tucson. A friend of mine has pretty debilitating auto immune disorder and hadn't received a lot of help from the regular MDs that she had been seeing so she booked an appointment at Dr. Weil's clinic and she finally found a doctor who understood just what she had and how to help her. Maybe it they can help you SIL diagnose what's going on with her.

Wishing a return to health for your SIL soon.
