I am beginning to look into homeschool materials for kindergarten and a friend had suggested Sonlight but I am a little leery about a prepackaged curriculum. Anyone have feedback on Sonlight? It seems a bit light to me just from taking a look. As a former teacher I really love Saxon Math, Handwriting without Tears, which I know can be purchased with the curriculum but am just concerned the other subjects they offer are a bit fluffy. What are your thoughts? Thanks!!

My friend uses it and loves it! It is literature based I guess. Her kids do very well with it.

I have a friend who uses it and loves it. It's very thorough and easy to use, but it is expensive. We use an assortment of curriculum such as Apologia for science, Charlotte Mason guides for history, Life of Fred (highly recommend checking out!) and Mathematical Reasoning for math, All About Spelling for spelling, etc. We personally tried Saxon but my kids found it boring and redundant and are thriving with what we use now (they use a lot more story based math as applied to real life and a lot more critical thinking skills.). It depends on how much $ you have to spend and which curriculum(s) work best with your child's learning style and interests. Good luck! :)

The wonderful thing about homeschooling is that you don't have to take a boxed set-one size fits all curriculum. I have used several different curriculums over my 3 years of homeschooling and this year I am using pieces of 4 different curriculums. I have heard good things about Sonlight and considered it but it comes with a hefty price tag. It is literature based and from what I have read and seen of it, it seems thorough. I am using My Father's World which also is literature based but a little bit cheaper.
