I got alot of good advice from everyone on the last question about Hormones. I'm pre menopausal from what my lab work and my Dr say. She told me to try soy. My question is does it come in pill form? If so where can I find it. I can handle the hot flashes and the irregular periods. It's the mood swings that I can't deal with. Happy one minute then mad or wanting to cry the next minute. Please Help!!!!!!

What can I do next?

Ive heard much better things about wild yams and black cohosh..........soy is given too much credit for its phytoestrogens.....hops have more than soy.

Holy basil or magnesium(believe it or not)is great for hot flashes also

When I was in grad school for midwifery I did a rotation with a midwife that specialized in menopause. She frequently recommended Remifemin to her pts for relief of symptoms. It is black cohosh, not soy. If that was not enough she had them add some soy, usually recommended in the form of soy milk, edamame, roasted soy nuts and/or tofu. Supplements are available but food sources are usually more effective. You should aim for 40-80 mg/day. Check labels to see how much is in each serving.

You can get soy in pill form at the health food store. There are other herbs that you can take to relieve the symptoms also.

Hi J., I went to GNC and got a perimenopausal supplement with a soy product in it. When I take it regularly, I have to say I think it helps. Trouble is, it's a 7 pill packet a day (HUGE horse pills), so it's more of a commitment then I'm usually willing to make. But even One A Day has a menopausal formula with basically the same key soy ingredient.

Like some of the other moms have suggested, soy (and all other vitamins, nutrients, etc) that we need are better in food form vs pill form. And even too much of a good thing can do more harm than good. I would go to a health food store and speak to someone about foods high in soy and made from soy, along with other options like black and blue cohash.

If you would prefer a pill, you should seek something that is food/mineral soluble over a water soluble pill.

Hi J.---I agree with Sarah in that soy from foods is far superior to anything in pills. But having said that, who knows what your body needs. I would highly recommend going to a healthcare practioner that can determine exactly what that is. Too much of even a good thing could be a problem, especially if it is NOT whole food. The more processed something is, the less likely the body is able to use it effectively.

Try to cook more with tofu. There are some excellent recipes at www.vegetariantimes.com. This is good for the whole family. I particularly like their Kung Pao Sliders, http://www.vegetariantimes.com/recipes/search_recipes/?ke... pao tofu sliders...YUMMY. Edemame is a great food. I can share a recipe for Egyptian Edemame stew...here it is,
http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/egyptian_edamame_stew.html. Have fun trying some new recipes!

I use a soy based protein powder in smoothies most mornings. It is made with organic, non-GMO water washed soy and it has the most protein and fiber than any comparable product in stores. This product is being used currently in a study at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas with outstanding results. Contact me for more information.

But I truly believe that it is best to consult a practioner of complementary/integrative medicine to see exactly what your body needs. It's likely to save you lots of time and money...and get you relief sooner than later.

Let me know if you'd like more info. It would be my honor to help. D.

I used Shaklee's Energyzing Soy protein drink (16 grams) and supplements. I sailed through menopause while all the other women in my family have had hysterectomies. They also have Cooling Complex you can put on the back of the neck for hot flashes that works almost instantly. There are no hormones in it.
I don't see how you could possibly get enough soy in a pill.

Keep it in the most natural and whole form. Edamame (immature beans, can find in freezer section of meijer), is the tastiest, cook for 5 min and pop out of the pods, takes a lot like peas. Also soy milk and tofu use the whole bean.

I don't know if they make soy in tablet form, I know you can get soy protein powder for shakes, but I would caution you from using this. It is likely soy protein isolate. Same things with soy burgers/hot dogs. Don't get me wrong, I like the soy meat substitutes, but they are not exactly a health food. :)

Best wishes!
