My 4 years old son is having a hard time with speech and language, probably related to multiple ear infections. His social skills are not that wonderful and he has some behavior issues( sometimes for no obvious reason he has disproportionate reaction.
Would you know about a good speech pathologist, pediatrician or ENT. I've also heard about the tomatis method or listening program but don't really know where to look.Has anyone used that method or program and where.

What can I do next?

Dr. John Huhn of Florida Otolaryntology Group ###-###-####) was a great ENT doctor. My son got tubes in his ears and Dr. Huhn listened to all my concerns and addressed them. He even drew pictures for me when I couldn't understand one explanation. He made me feel comfortable during the consultation, before the surgery and after the surgery. And he was very playful with my son, too, who was 1 1/2 at the time, so my son was comfortable with him too.

As far as pediatrician's, Dr. Stewart Dobbins is a wonderful pediatrician and his staff is just as great. It's them who recommended Dr. Huhn, by the way.

I'm a speech-language pathologist also. I would recommend Debra Beckman ###-###-####) if you are near the Winter Park area. I did my internship there and they are great. Make sure you find out if his hearing has been affected. If the speech/language delay is related to hearing problems insurance will usually cover the evaluation and therapy. If it is not, they usually don't and you might need to have him evaluated and treated in the school system. Good luck!

I am a certified and licensed speech language pathologist. I have evaluated over 500 children. Each one is special. I accept most insurance plans. I work primarily with little ones. I work with Dr. Huhn. He is a great ENT. His # is ###-###-####.

My number is ###-###-####.

I am also a specialist in the area of oral motor and was trained by Debra Beckman.

Each insurance plan is different, even within a given company. Your speech language pathologist will be able to research that for you. I file insurance for my parents and I find that more and more plans are covering speech and language difficulties regardless of the cause.

Hope this helps.

I have 2 offices. One in Winter Park and one in NW Orlando.

Your child is less than 3 years old, you should call the Florida Early Steps program at 1850-###-###-#### for early intervention services. They will perform an evaluation and if your child qualifies, will provide therapy at no cost to you until your child is 3. This program is federally funded. When your son turns 3, you should contact the school board of the county where you live. The school board also does evaluations and provides necessary therapies within the Pre-k programs. The key is early and aggressive therapy.

My son was deaf for 10 mos. from chronic ear infections and suffered developmental delays and sensory issues as a result. Our ENT had the insight to refer us to these programs that were free of charge, not based on financial ability, and provided the necessary services for my Son who is now 3 1/2, part of the pre-k program and thriving daily.

Cheryl Cotter at Nemours is his ENT. She has 3 kids of her own and is FANTASTIC! I think she's recently moved offices but Im sure Nemours has that information.

Not too sure where you are, but I know when I was having the same issues with my daughter, I took her to an audiologist through my local public school. Even though she was not of school age yet, they did some testing on her. It is a really good test, and they can tell almost immediately if there are some physical difficulties with his hearing. If in Orlando, Florida, let me know, I can get you in touch with the right people. :)

Hi! V.: It is very hard and stressful having a child that may have Speech Language/Hearing problems. I know because I have a bachelor's in SLP/Aud. I would suggest you go to the UCF Speech and Hearing Clinic. They would be able to evaluate your child and if there is a problem to treat it. It is better to find out if there is a problem rather than just wait and be stressed about it. A.
