STEM Online Classes / Camps

I looked into programming classes for our son and found this one serving Northern California. Ruled it out, though, since we're not rich, but since you're in the Bay Area the price may not be as shocking.

The Tech in San Jose has quite a variety of STEM-based camps scheduled for this summer. Likely that would be too much of a commute, but perhaps check your local children's or science museums?

Another possibility might be through your local colleges or universities. My son did sports camps through ours; maybe yours is offering a wider variety.

Last summer Make magazine ran a free online summer makers camp. There were projects every week, "visits" with people in tech fields, artists, scientists, and so on (Google plus was the platform for these), and opportunities for kids to virtually share their work. My 11 y.o. loved it. If they're doing it again, you'll be able to find the information on the Make magazine website.

we've signed ours up for three programming classes over the summer. Two are through Oakland university and the other is a sleepover camp at University of Michigan. Mine plays video games too (I judge you NOT!) :-) but he wanted to get a little more hard core into the actual programming piece of it, rather than just game design. Check with your local community college and/or local universities. They offer these "camps" and your kids don't have to enroll or audit or anything like that.

the one at U of M is through IDtech camp. Google that and see if they offer one at a university near you. He went with a buddy last year and they had a blast.
