Sugar Ants Everywhere

I use ground cinnamon to stop ants. Insects breathe through holes in their sides called spiracles. Any fine powder (cinnamon, sage, talc, chalk, cornstarch) will stick to them and occlude the spiracles, causing them to suffocate. Cinnamon is harmless if kids or pets get into it, and it smells good. I keep bowls of kibble under my carport for the outside cats. I was constantly having to throw it out because ants were getting into it. I started sprinkling a ring of ground cinnamon around the bowls, and had no more ants.

I would clean thoroughly with white vinegar. Vinegar destroys their pheremone trail so that they can't find their home again. Without being able to get back home again, they die pretty soon.

You do need to find the hive so that you can get rid of it.

Someone out here suggested Terro to me, when I had a similar problem.

It WORKED! And it's the ONLY thing that worked! Overnight!

We've never had them super bad, but I've always used those little round poison trap things and just put them where the kids can't get to them - under the sink with child lock on it, maybe under stove, under fridge or places like that......????

I used to soak strips of paper towel in nail polish remover. Lay the strips wherever you see the ants. They hate the smell. You may need to keep soaking the strips. If they are in your drains, you may need an exterminator.

I've successfully used cinnamon, lemon juice and white vinegar to help rid my home of ants.

I put water-based traps around the outside of my house, and that took care of the problem.

We get ants every spring.

First figure out where they are coming in. If you sit down on the floor and sit still, you should be able to work out the path they are taking. At that point of the wall, put down a square of cardboard and a liberal amount of Combat Ant gel. You might need to lay down a second batch if there are a lot of ants.

Keep your kids out of the room overnight. In the case of the bathroom, accompany them. In a day or two, the ants will be gone. They take the bait back to their nest and it kills the queen too.

I've heard ants won't cross a line drawn with chalk or made with baby powder.

Make your own Terro.

I mix borax and a bit of sugar with a little water to make a syrupy liquid and then put it on some kind of platform. I put them behind furniture against the baseboard where the ants will walk. They carry it home and it kills the nest. Works like a charm every year.

It's not just sugar or food...they're also after salts, which they'll find in sweaty shoes/socks.

We use Terro. It's basically Boric Acid and sugar. You can put drops of it on little pieces of cardboard or in bottle caps and lay it where kids and pets can't get it. They'll be gone in a day or two!

Cinnamon, put it everywhere you see them and their trails. It's safe if the kids get it on them. Keep using it until you know they're gone, then leave some to keep them away.

Get it. Spray it around your doors and windows.

Get some Terro and hide it behind things.

Spraying fo ants doesn't work. You need to put out ant bait. THey take it back to the next tokill the colony. You can get some at any store.
