Summer Receiving Blankets?

They are the most amazing receiving blankets ever! They are made of muslim and are larger than regular receiving blankets making it easier to swaddle. They are very lightweigt so they won't overheat the child. They are also great to block the sun when you take the little one outside. And, they also make a great spit up rag in a pinch. My baby is now 10 months and we still use the blankets for everything!

I use the lighter waffle-patterned blankets. I have a 3 month old who gets swaddled. And I jsut keep the air a little cooler in the house so she sleeps comfortably.

I think by far the best swaddling blankets that are available are...Aden + Anais .

They are made out of Muslin which is a lightweight and airy material. This material becomes softer with each wash. They are big as well which helps tremendously with swaddling. These blankets are great for even when baby outgrows swaddling. Currently, my 2 year old still drags hers around, sleeps and snuggles with them. I only wish I had these swaddling blankets available for all of my children.

you can use a mans dress shirt. thin material, and enough to cover the baby.

When my childern were little I had receiving blankets for summer that were made of seer sucker material, it is lite weight. Mine made have been hand made, but you may be able to call around to find them.

They make some blankets out of a t-shirt like material. Try those out! They are usually pretty cool for the summer months.

highly recommed gr8x blankets. they are made of a knit material that stretches to make a great swaddle and idn't too warm. locally, we bought them at lazar's, and i've bought them online at cheekymonkey.ca

I was having the same problem with my 3 month baby, I went to Joann fabrics and bought some really nice ckid print light cotton, and had the edges sewen, I even found a really nice pattern for the 4th!! The trick to finding the right cotton is to hold it up to the light and if you can see through it then it is breathable and light enough, I only have him dressed in a onsie and the blanket he LOVES it!!!

I made mine with a flat sheet, traced the flannels on the cotton sheet then with iron on tape made a seam and I had cutom made cotton blankets.

Look for cotton blankets. They are lightweight and allow for airflow. If you can find crocheted cotton, so much better.

My daughter is 2 months and I have been using the kola baby thermal blankets (purchased from babies r us). They have worked really well...not to hot.

Both of my boys were born in the summer, July and August, and we always swaddled them. You do have to remember that they are use to the warmth of your body which was 98.6 degrees and if you use AC at all, your house stays at a comfortable temperature. As they got a little bigger, those little swaddle blankets/receiving blankets seem to get to small quickly. My mom made me some that were a little larger. She just got baby flannel from the material store and sewed around the edges. Very easy to do. Hope this helps!

I have a 2 1/2 year old and a new 1 month old and my favorite blankets for swaddling are the simple thermal/waffle weave blankets made by Gerber. They are inexpensive, they last forever, and they are nice and lightweight but provide warmth at the same time. I bought them at Babies R Us, I also found them in the baby section at my local Toys R Us. I have a ton of them and swear by them - they are big enough to use for swaddling, light enough for warmer days, and they have a great amount of stretch in them which is great for swaddling, too. www.solanababywear.com - they have great muslin and gauze swaddle blankets. Perfect for swaddling my babies in AZ! My older daughters now use them as their blankies - they like the traditional satin trims. They're very thin and lightweight.

I'm amazed that he still lets you swaddle him. Mine wouldn't stand for it after a week or two. they just wanted to stretch out.

Have you tried just a basic recieving blanket like they use in the hospital. You can get them at any retail store...like Walmart.

Or if those are two small since he is two months old...try buying some fabric you like in the size you want and then just finish the edges with a sewing machine.

We received a blanket from baby gap two years ago that was a light, soft blanket but very much like a t-shirt. Maybe check there or other "specialty" retailers to see if they have any.

I didn't swaddle my oldest son who is now 15 much during the summer months,I felt he'd get too sweaty so I just held him close in his diaper and tshirt and that seemed to work fine.

my baby sleeps all night with a swaddle... I am not about to give it up :) we use the cotton knit (like the other mom said, like a t-shirt material) and it's nice and light. I like to keep at least a onesie on her - skin on skin (like her arms wrapped close to her chest) would create sweat/discomfort so that's my reason for that.

We got ours at Babies R Us - they sell them online too. FYI, they only come in small and large. My baby is 13# and is starting to outgrown the small.

Also, I am fortunate in that my husband cannot sleep during warm weather without the AC on - plus with the seasonal allergies him and my oldest have, we put the AC on, so we are not using this with the windows open in this muggy weather.

I loved the cotton blankets that look like thermal material. We also had one smooth cotton blanket from BAby Center that was really great!

I used a nice waffle weave blanket with my summer baby- It didn't make either of us feel all sweaty-

I have the swaddlers you can buy at Babies R Us. They are cotton and made by Kiddapotomos.

I agree with some of the other moms. I dont know about you but the gas prices have most of us in a price crunch. Go to walmart or target.I think at both places you can get a pack of them with 2 in there. They have thinner recieving blankets. One of my sons didnt want to be wrapped up anymore at that age, but the other one, did up till he was 4 1/2 months. Good Luck to you.

Hi there. They actually make these great swaddlers that are a nice lightweight cotton. My Daughter was born in July and it worked great. I think I bought mine at Target? They have instructions actually printed on the blanket an it stays closed with velcro! It is made specifically for swaddling and was fantastic!

We use the "Swaddle Me" by Kiddopotamus. It's fastened with velco and is a light t-shirt material. I think it's one of the best inventions ever!

I agree with the dish towel idea. I used those really cheap cheese cloth dish towels. They are so soft and light. I also used them in the stroller to block the sun but not make my daughter hot. Good luck!

We used the t-shirt type material swaddle-me wraps, and when she outgrew those, we switched to a miracle blanket (also a t-shirt type material). if it was really hot out, we just left her in a onsie or even her diaper inside of the swaddle.

Luckily, they do make summer receiving blankets. I had two of my sons in the heat of the summer and they had thin, cotton receiving blankets. Check for them at a Carter's store or at Walmart and target. Also, they have actual "swaddlers". They are a piece of fabric with velcro that makes swddling easier. Hope this helps. He should not be swaddled anymore. He is two months old. He needs to look at his hands and discover his feet. Just give him a lightweight blanket and leave him be.

Kidpottumas (not sure of the spelling)makes these wonderful blankets called "swaddle me." The small size goes up to 11 or 12 pounds and the large goes up to around 20. I found the flannel version in small online at Babys R US, but found knit versions in small at Toys R Us and the large size in the Babys R us stores. They run about $10 each.

Our house gets very warm in the bedrooms, so we have been using the knit blanket at night and my daughter (11 weeks old) sleeps great.

Swaddling will not be necessary or advisable for much longer, and you can use very lightweight cotton thermal or flannel blankets, or even just a piece of lightweight cotton knit fabric. A dr once told me that for the first two months you wrap up a newborn with one more layer than yourself, but after that you dress them in layers of about the same weight as yourself. Most people overdress babies. By that standard, you won't need much more in summer than a very lightweight cotton flannel blanket. It's all I ever used.

I second the swaddle me wrap. We used the fleece one up till about a week ago then I went out and got a cotton jersey one for the summer. They sell them at Babies/Toys R Us.

I used the Swaddle Me blankets with the velcro closures. My babies were born last June and this seemed to work well when they got to big for the receiving blankets. Toys R Us sells them in various sizes.

There are cotton receiving blankets. I have bought them at Target. I think it may be easier for you to try one of those sleep sacks. I believe they are made by Halo https://www.halosleep.com/ or check out the One Step Ahead catalog. My babies were both swaddlers, and were able to transition from blanket swaddling to those sleep sacks w/out a problem. They liked them b/c they were not able to wiggle out of the swaddling that way.

Hi V., We lived in TX when my daughter was born and it was the middle of summer! We liked lightweight cotton jersey (t-shirt material) blankets and found these were the only ones that kept her swaddled -- regardless of weather. Stretchy enough to "stick" to itself and keep her in there, but not so hot and uncomfortable... They are very hard to find. Try searching online with the words "cotton jersey" -- I did find one at Babies R Us in the store, but it was one in (almost) a million. Good luck and congratulations!

i tore a sheet up into smaller squares for that reason. or you can buy material from the fabric store and make your own.

Just remember to put dress or cover your child the same way that you would cover/dress yourself to be comfortable. If its too hot for blankets, don't use them. If you still want to swaddle the
baby, use a sheet or something thin like that. If you use the ones for a crib, they are a little big but they work. Hope this helps.

You don't have to use a receiving blanket. Will the house be air-conditioned, then continue with the flannel. If not air-conditioned, try putting a floor fan in the room and aim it past the baby, so it stirs the air nearby, but not right on him. My husband and daughters are sweaters, they wake up very wet sometimes. If you have that in your family, your concern is warranted. If not, don't anticipate he'll be especially warm. If he gets too warm, try using a white cotton dish towel, the ones that are the size of a receiving blanket. If he still gets too warm, have him sleep in just his diaper (I have pictures of my daughter with damp curly hair asleep in her basinette with only a diaper on) and the dish towel wrapped around him. Lastly, maybe you can get by without the swaddling now as he has gotten used to falling asleep by himself.

I love the swaddle wraps that are designed to wrap around the baby with velcro to tightly swaddle. We used fleece wraps (made by Kiddopotamus) during the winter when our twins were 0-3 months old - worked great! I just recently switched to a cotton velcro wrap by The First Years; however, my son kicks out of it immediately and my daughter (smaller) usually stays in it most of the night, sometimes kicks out. They're 4 1/2 months now, so they're probably just too big. Can be found at Target, Babies R Us, etc. Last option would be just a cotton waffle-weave receiving blanket, I bought mine at Babies R Us, but your 2 month old may start to kick out of it sooner than later.

for my usmmer baby, i used the swaddle design which is a light weight flannel blanket. We had our air conditioning on so I didn't think she would be too warm. I use a blanket at night, why shouldn't she?

Also, I've seen some "gauze" swaddle blankets at Right start. Not sure of th ebrand but they seemed lightweight.
