Does anyone have any suggestions for a good sunscreen for my toddler who has mild eczema? I tried aveeno baby last summer but that seemed to irritate it even more. Looking to try something new that will be gentler on sensitive skin.

A friend of mine tried every lotion out there for her toddler and has had great success with Baby Magic. It's the only thing that doens't bother her son's eczema. She's also heard good things about California Baby, but has never tried it.

I shop for safer products for my home through a company called Melaleuca. This past year, I have used there mineral sunscreen for my family & have been very happy with the results. My sister's 3 children all have eczema & have had no problems with it either! They also have wonderful products for those with dry skin & eczema that may help as well! Go to saferformyhome.com or contact me & I'll help you get these great products! Hope this helps! S.

Hi A. K,

I would recommend Badger all natural sunscreen. The active ingredient is zinc. You can find at your natural food stores. I use it on my daughter who is extremely sensitive to products. This worked well with no side effects for us. Hope all goes well.

Hello A.,
Go to www.cosmeticsdatabase.com They test and rate all beauty products and skin products available on the market and list them for irritants and ingredients. They have a whole section on sunscreens and their safety and reliability.
As a mom I find their knowledge to be invaluable! My girls have very sensitive skin and I have to be very careful about particular ingredients. I use Badger brand sunblock- spf 30. It works very well and has titanium dioxide as it's main ingredient which is so much safer and less irritating than the chemicals that most other major brands use. I can sometimes find it at Target in the baby department- but I ordered in in bulk from drugstore.com. They have free shipping.
California Baby is also rated highly- but I found it didn't last as long as the Badger.
Good luck!

My family is afflicted with eczema and skin allergies and I have found that sometimes different products work for different people. For my immediately family, we use the NoAd sunscreen, which is carried at Walmart and Walgreens. Arbonne and other all natural products do not work for us. We stick with things that are unscented. I know I'm allergic to rose, eucalyptus and tea tree. Unfortunately you'll need to experiment to find the product that is right for your child.
Good luck!

It is so important to protect your children from the sun. It seems that the real issue here, is not just avoiding sun burns but the eczema itself. Eczema is a sign that there is an imbalance and that excess toxins are escaping from your child's skin. There are steps you can take now to hopefully reverse that symptom and help protect your child's skin from damage from the sun as well. When we start having skin issues it is usually a sign that the other elimination organs such as the bowel, lymphatic system and liver may be stressed. You want to support these systems while limiting toxins from food and environment. I have an amazing product that I recommend called DNA repair cream that helps to reverse damage to cells and promote the growth of healthy skin cells.

I work with people to holistically and naturally gain optimal health by balancing the body. We do this through diet and lifestyle. I actually used to suffer from eczema and another (supposedly incurable) skin condition called vitligo. I reversed both of these symptoms through diet. I also burn less now because the sun is no longer interacting with the toxins on my skin, causing it to burn faster. I can also recommend some natural sunblock for both of your children this summer.

Feel free to contact me for more info.

Best of luck,

Hello,
Both my kids are allergic to sunscreen and I use Vanicream Sport SPF 30. You don't need a prescription for it but the pharmacy has to order it for you or you can get it on line. It comes in a SFP 30 and just came out with a SPF 60. When you go to the Pharmacy make sure they order the one with SPF because they make a regular cream too. Here is a link to it on drugstore.com

Yes, I have a great one that I use on my 2 yr. old son, but you can't buy it in a store. It's Arbonne ABC Baby Care Sunscreen SPF 30+. I use all the Arbonne Baby Care products on my son because they are all botanically based with no fragrances or dyes and they're pediatrician tested (not just approved). I love them so much I became an Independent Consultant a couple of months ago. If you put her on Reliv for kids, it should clear up the exzema - and then you can do anything you want with sunscreen and other lotions! Reliv is sold through distributors, many of them SAHMs, and has 20 years of solid results with all kinds of health issues. It supports the immune system and was formulated by the same scientist who supervised ProSoBee and Enfamil formulas, so you know it is safe for kids! Reliv distributors connect potential customers with others who have had success in the same areas - the stories are what convince people to start and stay with Reliv. Let me know if you are interested and I will connect you by phone with some great exzema and kids' health stories from other parents! Good luck!

I recently read the Aveno baby label, and was shocked to find that it contained so many ingredients that could irritate eczema! I have to suggest Arbonne's Baby Care sunscreen, no petroleum, no animal products, chemical fragrances or colors, and no Phalates or parabens ... only a great broad-spectrum sunscreen that's good for your skin!

I'd be happy to send you a free sample of the whole baby line!

My son had the same problem and we used Neutrogena Sensitive Skin sunscreen (only this one - none of the other styles worked.) It is hard to spread around since there are no chemical sunscreens, just zinc oxide. I found that the chemical sunscreens (even in gentle Aveeno) were tough on his skin. There are also some organic sunscreens out there (harder to find) that have only physical not chemical blockers, but I don't know the names. Hope that helps.

Try asking this on www.makeupalley.com on the skin care board. The women that post there are very knowledgeable about all types of sunscreens and which sunscreen works best for special skin problems. They have a whole section on product reviews so you could read about the brands that have been suggested to you. I have good luck with Vanicream SPF 30 and Dr. Haushka's sunscreen for children.

You've got some great advice here about sunscreens, but wouldn't it be great if you could get rid of that eczema? I have no idea if it would be the same for you, but I have given up wheat and anything with gluten in it and voila, no more eczema, psoriasis, reflux, headaches, joint pain, fatigue, sleeplessness....a lot of times we need to take a more holistic approach to skin eruptions and see it (as some have mentioned in other responses) as a symptom, not a singular problem. Good luck!

Try JASON SUNBRELLA for kids. It's all natural and can be found at your local health food store. Try not to overapply, the sun is good for us as long as we don't overdo it, that's how we get our vitamin D. I don't use sunscreen unless we are going to be in full sun for over 20 minutes...and my daughter never burns! She has sensitive skin too.

there is this australian sunscreen you can get at sporting goods stores or online called Blue Lizard. they have different strengths and they make an all natural version for sensitive skin. I have used tons of differnt kinds of sunscreen because my son is borderline albino nad lots of sunscreen doesn't protect him well enough. Also dark chocolate is a natural skin healer. It has a natural spf and it has been known to calm or heal some skin irritations.
