Swelling in 3Rd Trimester

Ok, so I know that some swelling, especially in the summer, is expected in pregnancy... but the past few days I've been swollen more than normal. Hands, wrists, knees to toes, and *weird* my lips. They are a darker pink than normal, super dry no matter how much chapstick I use and look like I had a collagen injection. My lips started swelling about mid-last week, the rest have been consistently swollen for about 2 weeks (nothing makes it better). My top lip is a little sore like I ripped skin off or something. I'm not dehydrated and my blood pressure is normal. I was also diagnosed with Bacterial Vaginosis yesterday and started taking Flagyl (anti-biotic). Maybe it's related? I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, but I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this or what it may be.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the advice everyone! I went to the doctor today and I'm okay.
The swelling is within normal range and my lips are going down. (Thank goodness!)
Flagyl is fine because it's only for a week and the baby is far enough along to be okay.
SO what started out as a very complicated pregnancy has finally leveled out to a pretty "normal" one. (another thank goodness!)
Thanks again for all the advice and comments, you Mamas are great :)

Maybe you should contact your doctor. You could be having an alergic reaction to the antibiotic.

Don't wait! Call your doctor's office today and ask to speak to a nurse.

I had really bad swelling with my second(not at all with my frst!), during my last trimester. I didn't have preaclampsia, just really bad swelling. It was so bad, that when I would push my fingers on my legs, I would feel the water swish around in there and there would still be an indent in my leg for several seconds. It was gross! When my water broke, TONS came pouring out, & came pouring out, & came pouring out..... My nurse was really surprised that I hadn't been diagnosed with excessive amounts of amniotic fluids.

This could be just normal swelling for you, or it could be preaclamplia too. I'm glad you are going to Dr. tomorrow.

After I delivered, I drank tons of water(about 3 of those big cups you get from the hospital) everyday and by week 2, I had lost all of the weight I had gained. Guess I pretty much just gained water weight.

Swelling can be a sign of pre-eclampsia. The routine urine test at your appt. should reveal protein in your urine if this is the cause of your swelling. Obviously, talk it over with your OBGYN.

Yep, mine was really bad. I gained over 40lbs due to water weight...just after 34 weeks. Turns out I had pre-eclampsia, but they didn't catch it until I was almost 38 weeks. I was induced a couple days later. I've finally gotten back to where the swelling is almost gone.. (i'm 3 weeks pp). I don't think antibiotics would do that...

I am 38 weeks and have had the same thing on and off for the past month. Some days are so bad, I feel I can't bend my fingers or toes at all. This is my 3rd pregnancy and I never had the swelling in hands, feet, mouth before like I have for this one. And I actually had pretty high blood pressure with the other 2 and not with this one (it is just start to go up a little this week). I never even had to take my rings off and this one I had to a few weeks ago. I know a few people that got pretty bad swelling with no other complications, and they were in the summer too. Keep hydrated, cool, and keep your feet up when you can. I tried to enjoy my lips that people pay actual money for too - lol! Of course, definitely check in with your doctor and monitor your blood pressure at least once a day if you can.

Call your doctor immediately and let them know! I'm not trying to scare you, but you need your BP taken and they may want you to pee in a jug for 24 hours to test for protein. Overly swelling can be a sign of pre-eclampsia. I had POST PARTUM pre-eclampsia, which is weird and rare, but it's a dangerous condition. With my second, I was never pre-eclamptic, but because of my history they watched me closely. I never swelled until a few weeks before the birth, and my BP was fine but started gradually climbing, so they made me do the pee test and finally induced a week early. Yours could be completely normal, but I don't think the medicine is causing it if your lips swelled two weeks ago.

Sounds like it could be pre-eclempsia; maybe brought on by the meds you started taking. I would visit the Dr. ASAP!!
