my daughter is 9 1/2 months old and i wanted to start giving her sippy cups for her juice instead of the bottle. i went and bought two different brands of sippy cups that have the rubber tip and the handles on both sides. whenever she tried them she got more juice on herself than in her mouth and i dont think she likes how it rushes out at her as compared to the nipple on the bottle i was just wondering how do i make the transition from her going from bottle to a sippy cup....

What can I do next?

N., there are sippy cups that have preventive leaks. It's under the sippy tops and my boys used that until they were ready without it. When that is? Every child is different so you haveto take it as it comes, but try those sippy cups.
Hope it helped.

Try Playtex sippy cup. My daughter didn't like Born Free - the mouthpiece started to taste like soap after a couple washes. But Playtex she got right away and the valves don't let out much liquid. She really has to pull. As she gets better at it, you can open the valves by cutting them open a bit more.

Hope this helps.

Try a straw sippy cup. Maybe try a real straw with her first and let her get the hang of it. It harder for them to get as much but at least she has control of how much goes up the straw. Plus it is great for speech because it strengthens their muscles.

I recommend Born Free sippy cups (with the soft spout) or Nuby brand, for first time sippy cup drinkers. Once your little one masters one of those styles, the other ones are much easier! Some people find that their kids do well with straws, also. My son wasn't really good with the straw until just recently, near one year. (Straws are hard to use for a full bottle of breastmilk or formula, too. They're better for water or juice during meals.)

She is 9 1/2 months. Why take her bottle away. Stick
with what works for her.

i honestly don't know why so many moms like the nuby cups, i HATED them for my boy and i work at a daycare and i hate them there too! i guess that it works for some, but every time your child bits down on the nipple all the slots open wide and it pours out, i have 20 month olds that still spill them.
that being said, i suggest the avent trainer cups, they have two handels so they are easy to hold and the top is rubber, not hard plastic.

Hi N.. I started my daughter on a sippy cup earlyish, at 7 months, as developmentally, she was in need of an activity where she needed to use her two hands in concert. I tried all the cups that required sucking to get the liquid out and she was not interested... until, I gave her one of those old school cups that just have a slit in the mouth piece and no liquid control mechanisim. I would put her in her high chair and put water in the cup and just let her make a mess for awhile. After a bit of time, she began to enjoy the fact that she was getting this liquid out of this device and at that time, I introduced the other cups and straws. It took her a couple of months but she first needed to understand that she could get as much liquid from the cup as she wanted before she would put in the time to figure out how to get it out of a vessel with a control device.

Did you try the NUBY brand? My son did not transition well, this was the only brand that helped him. Good luck!

I would wait till she's 1 year old before switching.
