Termite Extermination Advice: Liquid Versus Bait

Hi Mamas!
We just recently discovered termites in our garage and now I've been getting estimates from different companies on what kind of treatment we should be using and how much we'll need to pay. Have you had any experience with this? Have you used liquid or bait systems. If so, have the termites returned? Have any of you used Orkin? I've called several local companies and Orkin and they're definitely the most expensive, but the technician said that once they do it, it's pretty much done for life. Any advice would be helpful.

I'm also concerned about the chemicals as I have a 2 year old and dogs and cats. All the pest companies assure me that there will be no effects, but if you've noticed something different since you've had your house treated, please let me know that too.

Thank you!
H.

Planting bait stations in the ground is really not enough. The termites can easily miss the bait and go straight for your house. If you already have termites then it's a real problem that could cost you a lot more down the road AND make it that much harder to sell your house later on. If you try to sell your house, a new buyer will almost certainly require that you prove you've had treatment done within the last 5 years -- and bait stations probably won't cut it. You need a continuous barrier of poison all the way around the house. I have used these guys - they were recommended by a house inspector: WWW.PESTMGMTPROS.COM / ###-###-#### Good luck!

don't try to save $$$.....your home is a huge investment! That said, we did the full treatment. It's a pain having to move everything out from the walls - inside & out! It was a huge job for the exterminator & his crew.....& with my daycare, I had to shut down for the day. So we had loss of income on top of paying the bill. The total was $1000........about 5 years ago......for a home with 1900 sq ft on the main floor & another 1200 downstairs.

& we found out we had termites by having them emerge & swarm INTO our home! They came up out of the ground next to the foundation by our front door & came in under the door. I was at the front door beating them to death as they poured into the house. The swarm lasted 2 1/2 hours, with a small break in btwn 2 rounds. I could not spray anything but water on them, because I had a house full of kids. It was an absolute nightmare.....just like you'd see in a horror movie!

According to the exterminator (& the other estimate), the cause for this was the free mulch we got at our local township. We placed it all the way around our home, throughout the entire landscaping. Btwn the mulch, the plastic, the large river rocks we used to line the beds, & regular watering....we set up the ultimate home for termites. Both exterminators recommended using rock only. Good Luck!

Why would a termite want an external bait. It already has all the wood it can eat!! - your house!!!! I go for the liquid - Termites eat on your house, but next and multiply underground and that's where the liquid is put.

Signature Pest Control is independently owned by Johnny Morgan, he is very good and thorough. I don't know what he charges, but he would be one that I would recommend...the phone number is ###-###-####

We use Blue Chip Exterminators. They have come and put green things in our ground and we have not had them return. I do not remember how much they were but It was WELL worth the money. We have them spray our house once a month and they have a device they check the green things with outside and since we had them put it, there have been maybe once that there was some activity, but after that there has been nothing and it has been almost a year~ Good luck
