Not quite to that extent. :p With my older two going through college I was "trained" to text if I wanted a reply in a timely manner so I now text them rather than call.

Even if all that text says is "call".

For whatever reason I have not thought to text someone I know doesn't have a phone but that is not to say it will never happen. :)

Yes. My husband get's onto my son because he texts me when I am in the same house. But yet I do it and he says it's ok. I am usually laying on an ice pack or something when I get home from work cause my back is messed up and when I try and yell they don't hear me. So I text. And I text my friends a lot we don't talk much on the phone it would take up too many mins. My son is the worst in the house though. He and his gf text eachother a LOT. But it saves money cause they are not on the cells talking.

Lol@ you wanting to text your daughter.

I text TONS and I feel no shame! =o) It is a much easier and faster way of communicating without having to actually talk and it cuts down on the loneliness of SAHMhood. I can converse without having to constantly put someone on hold while I go to the laundry room, vacuum the LR, prep dinner, etc... I ❤ texting!!!

Just wanted you to know that I got why it was funny...never even crossed my mind whther your daughter has/does not have a phone.

But on to answering your question...only with certain people...my hubs hates texts! So for every little thing I have to call him. Wish he'd just let me text...do we need milk, do I need to stop for anything?...but no, I have to call him.

I prefer text but that is because I dislike (very strongly) talking on the phone.

Oh Good Grief... to the person who is so sad she texts her 7 yr old and your convictions.... if you read the question, it is clear that the 7 yr old does not have a phone and SO WHAT if the 7 yr old did... it is not your business to judge.

I got your gist... Molly

Our family texts a LOT and I mean I may have 12,000 and month right there along with my 17 yr old daughter. We are huge texters. Not big on cell phone calls but lots of texts and emails.

We also have convictions and they are to do what is right for our family and not judge what other famiilies choose to do.

Yes I do. I text every member of my family, my coworkers, my friends - and nobody is sad about it!

It gives me the opportunity to stay connected with my teenagers and extended family. Instead of always thinking - ah man, next time I get a chance I need to call my sil - instead I send her texts every few days. That's our phone tree - how we get the word out to each other on family happenings. Noone can answer thier phone at work or school, so I text. It keeps me from forgetting to tell them something - I do it the minute the thought pops in my head.

I am a txting addict. I admit it. I LOVE it! I think it is the BEST invention of our times...totally!

It is the BEST way to keep up to date with my teenage stepsons and my nephews and it's how I communicate most with my sister...and my husband I txt all day long and it is how I have communicated with my BFF since she travels all over, and with my other BF now that she moved to Arizona!

I am a moderate texter. But, I have texted my husband while we're in the same building/house. Like, I'm already in bed and he's watching tv in the living room. I'll text: "when are you coming to bed? can you please turn the tv down. love you." I must say, it is sometimes the easiest and quickest way to get/receive a message from somebody. If I don't want to have a 15 minute conversation with my mom about weeken plans, I can just text "t-ball game saturday at 9, see you there?"

So, for me, not an addiction. But, it is a very convenient tool.

I would say I am a moderate texter. I go days without texting and then other days it seems like I'm on my phone a lot. Maybe I'm a binge texter! My girls are way too young to have mobile phones so no issues with texting children.

I text alot and I text my hubby all day while he is at work, but my daughter is terrible, she will text me or her dad from her bedroom when we are in the house. She will also text a friend that is sitting right next to her if she doesn't want anyone to hear her conversation.

Yes and the bad thing about it is that I have carpal tunnel, so why do I text?....it's easier just to talk on the phone!

Ha ha. I "got" it. Funny.
I assumed your 7 yr old didn't have a phone and was in your home at that
very moment.
Time to put down the phone & back away. ha ha :)
I love texting mainly because I don't have to get involved in a long overly involved conversation.
And somtimes......I'm just too tired or burnt out to talk to anyone.
It's quick, concise and to the point.
My text capability isn't working right now. Uh oh. ;)

Its the primary way I communicate with my teenagers if they need to be picked up, if they can go somewhere, if I need to tell them something during the day (they will check at lunch or after school before sports). I text co-workers daily when people are out of the office, my friends, boyfriend, parents, other family members - just not my brother. He's not on board yet...great way to keep in touch with what's going on with each other and kids. Also, great way to NOT have to have a conversation with the ex!

I have clients who only communicate via text. I always try voice first, but if they prefer text, that's what they get.

I sent my very first text probably about a year ago, and have probably sent a total of 70-80 since then. Initially I only texted in reply to a text that was sent to me, it took me awhile to figure out how to initiate my own text :). Yep, I am that tech illiterate. I do see the benefit in some situations, especially if I am somewhere that is very loud and want to share a quick thought with someone. But if I am engaged in a text discussion that is going on its 3rd or 4th text I feel like it is a waste of time and I just call them instead.

You texts your 7 year old...This makes me sad!

We don't text in our house! and we have convictions for certain things and one is that our children will not have cell phones until age 16 (there is more details to the conviction but that is the jist)

Wow that is a problem...but sadly you are not alone in this addiction!
