My preemie is about to be discharged after almost 4 months in the NICU. Yay! I would like to get something for his primary nurses as thank you gifts. I'm trying to steer away from food as this seems to be a fairly common gift from parents. Anyone have any ideas of what nurses might get a kick out of as a gift? They are all fairly young in age...
Congratulations on bringing your new baby home! Yeah! As a NICU nurse, I would highly suggest a gift card to Borders. We nurses are always taking care of others and hardly have time for ourselves. . .That or a gift card for a pedicure or manicure. I'm sure she would love it! You could always do a food basket to keep in the break room and just do the above for the primary nurse! Take care!

I think they will appreciate anything you care to offer. I think you are going to end up spending a good amount of money if you buy individual gifts. I know my niece was in that unit for a few months and the nurses always did enjoy getting food. I think something healthy would be a great idea and very much appreciated along with a nicely written note to the whole floor. You can always add something special about the primary ones too.
Find out what restaurants are near by that will deliver..say a panera or something like that I know delivers or great american bagel or make the tray up yourself and bring it over when you can bring the baby back for a visit.. my brother n law did that. and you can do a big tray of bagels and breakfast items such as muffins and cookies and such.. they or you can make it look really nice.. and several cream cheese spreads and jam or they can make wonderful salads and sandwich trays too. Then the whole floor can enjoy a treat. Whatever fits your budget. I think they would love it!

When we left the NICU (after it seemed like our 2nd home!), we got our primary nurses gift certificates to Mario Triccoci.
Anything you get for them will be appreciated.

Congratulations on the homecoming of your son! When my son was released from the NICU, I put together a large basket of food-goodies to put in the break room. He had so many different nurses over the course of his stay it was hard to do anything but something to be shared amongst the group! But if you go the individual route, consider gift cards, even in small denominations might be nice. You can get creative as to where (Bookstores, Sephora, iTunes, etc). Personal care items ("smell-goods"....soaps, lotions, etc) are usually appreciated....that's about all I can come up with right now, but I think its so nice that you want to gift them in some fashion. After my son's time in the NICU, I was fully convinced that these nurses are the angels who walk amongst us!

Congrats on your sons homecoming!!! I know when my twins got out of the nicu we went in there with a cake and then some little personal gifts(a hand scrub and lotion b/c nurses are ALWAYS washing their hands). I am a consultant for Arbonne and have some terrific all natural, aromatherapy hand scurbs and lotions. I am not sure how many nurses you need to buy for, but we have some smaller sizes of the scents that we offer and you could end up getting them a hand scrub and lotion for about $12 each. I know you wanted to stay away from food items, but if you change your mind or want something a little more creative, check out sweets in bloom. They have really cute arrangements of snacks and goodies. A little more fun than a basket of fruit! It's hard to think of other things because there are so many nurses and trying to track them all down to give a gift is hard, and would be expensive. I sent one of these baskets to the NICU when my son was there. I think the nurses are just glad that you remember to thank them.

I don't know what your budget is, and this could probably get pretty expensive pretty quick, but how about gift cards for Bath and Body works or something similar? Or a nearby spa? I imagine nurses would enjoy something like that. Unfortunately, I can't think of anything right now that would be a little bit more budget-friendly.
