That's Ok, Maybe NEXT Month I Can Buy......

Listen, I am SICK AND TIRED of ratty ole towels! Holey, stringy, faded, mismatched, gnarly, scratchy towels! I want some BIG WHITE FLUFFY NEW towels, LOTS of them, in EVERY bathroom!

So every month, every SINGLE month, I think, YAY! NEXT month I will buy some lovely soft quality bath towels! Then somethin' always happens....new glasses, unexpected vet bill, lost sneakers, broken phone, car issues.....you name it, it's a conspiracy against all that is right and just in the world that I will NEVER have my towels!!! (tehehe)

So I wonder if there are other delusional moms out there who daydream like I do about being able to buy a thing, ANY thing, then, sigh, shrug when the 10 year old needs $150 for the next field trip, and think, well, THAT'S OK! I'll get my _____ NEXT month!!

Have a great week Ladies!

:)

Buy one at a time and dont use them till you have all of them. Then have a party when you officially announce the old towels as garage rags.

My answer is always a new pair of jeans that acutally fit me. :) Seems like I always spend the extra money on gas, food or something for the kids. Just one month I would like an extra $100 to buy something for ME. Even though I probably wouldn't it would still be nice. Thankfully I have all new towels and they were SOOO worth it. I even bought the extra big ones for the cold winters and a towel warmer. :)

Towels are like sheets. They wear out and get hard to deal with. They NEED replacing once in a while. ("Need" is the operative word here!)

I have a whole list of things I'm going to get some time. My children are grown, but I have vet bills to pay for the dogs and cats, and gasoline to get for the guzzler, and it seems to take a long time for that list to get shorter.

By the way, I recommend the J. C. Penney towels. They come in a gazillion colors and they don't fray or "thin" out fast. And you don't have to buy all of them right away. You can get a set or two every time a sale comes up.

This has been an issue for me for a long time as well! Hubby uses seperate towels...he likes smaller hotel type ones, so gets blue ones at Sams Club in a pack pretty cheap...but even he waited forever to get new ones!

I finally decided I wanted new ones! I have some that we got in our first apartment over 20 years ago! So I found some I liked at Target (I looked at more expensive places, but couldn't find colors or textures/plushness I actually liked...and this price worked great for me anyways!).

Now every few times I go to Target, I buy 2 (one of each color I liked). They are inexpensive, but plush and nice! 2 of them costs me about $15, so not much to add to my bill each time. The cabinet is full enough now, that next time I will have to actually start to purge some of the old ones! Maybe just put into the old rag cabinet hubby uses for garage junk/washing cars, etc???

I have been trying to do this with socks for myself too...I love these expensive Smartwool socks....yet keep buying cheap cotton ones that I hate to wear! NO more...I will hold off and just get another good pair I will wear out till they are threadbare!

Socks and towels...little luxuries I WANT!!!

why not buy one towel a month until you have replaced them all? That is what we do in my house when we can replace them slowly we do! The kiddo gets the old ones and the adults get the new ones until all there are are new ones. Then you can not put them off since they are a decent price one at a time.

for me it is working out & loosing weight, but same kinda thing. Plan to work out, but always some deadline thing that has to get done first. Then when I actually do start working out, kids fuss or fight or husband decides that it is a good time to talk about business and can't really get into it and so everyday, I say well maybe tomorrow. Then here it is like 3-4 months later & not one work out and summer is here! ugh. yes, we moms always put things off for everyone else.....

Check out the clearance tables at Penney's - Kohl's--and other stores like that. I worked for a Penney's and got some really nice towels about 7 yrs ago clearanced out for $1.97/each. Yes it's about time to replace them.

If you keep an eye on clearance items at major dept stores they keep going down in price until they are gone. Buy enough for one bathroom at a time. If there is more than one Penney's in your area you can often go to a couple of stores and find the amount you need with the matching hand towels and washcloths.

Several yrs ago when Kohl's had an end of the season I went to a couple of different stores to find the tops that went with the bottoms I bought.

Re: Towels, though - I went to Tuesday morning and went crazy about a year ago. bought em out of white towels since they were having some kind of deal. Best thing I ever did. Then took the old ones and shredded them for chores, cleaning the car/dog, etc.
Since they were all white, I didn't care what stitching, etc. was on them.
following that "bite the bullet" moment, I went to W-S and bought new kitchen towels - VICTORIOUS! LOL.

I love this...I have a veggie garden...well no i dont..I have the dirt ready to go to plant a veggie garden. I can see it from where my computer sits. It is my patch of dirt and I have big plans for it...Whenever I can afford to by the little bit of fencing to go around it. It is along or drive way and the path to the front door. I would like to have it fenced so that the kids dont trample through it. I want it where i see it everyday. I had one in the backyard last year..My bother in law planted it for us before we moved into their house. I was so excited it was going to be there. Then they got busy getting ready to move up to alaska and I never found the free time so it was a lost by the middle of june. My green thumb is also a work in progress.

So every month I tell myself that hopefully there will be enough left outta the bills, that i will be able to go to the lawn and garden center and by my fencing. We havent been able to afford it yet...So, I am focusing on getting the ground healthy and yummy by composting for now.. I have small shovels for my boys and we go out together and turn the dirt on nice days. I dont want them to be kept out of the gardening process. I just dont want it to be a wash once our food is in the ground!!

My other thing is more a ok maybe next fathers day...We have been using a coleman camper grill now for about three and a half years...I am one of those chefs that will grill year round and sometimes more then once a day!! we grilled pancakes believe it or not!! that was a good day..not great treat but fun trying. We horribly need a new grill so every year about this time i start shopping the sales at my all in one store shop. We have not yet been able to afford one. Its just nice to walk through the outdoor department and dream!! maybe next year:)

Walmart has some nice white towels on sale for $4. They aren't department store quality, but they are comfy, pretty thick and cute, and they don't fuzz all over you like most cheap towels do. They are white, with piped colored stripes on the end (I think mine have pale gray stripes. They have held up for me quite well. So, while you wait to splurge, go and spend $20 on a few new towels. It will be well worth it. Or, Ross/Marshalls usually have very high quality towels for fairly cheap. I've seen Ralph Lauren sets for like $20.

These are the ones I'm talking about that I have:

and yes, I know what you mean. My current want right now is an area rug!

My daughter ruined our hand towels removing make-up so I bought some new washcloths for her this weekend and two sets of hand towels and told her that if I see a speck of makeup on my towels, she owes me $5 for a new one. You know, I think I'll make a list of these and every time I manage to get something really on sale or save $10-20 on coupons at the grocery store I'll spend the savings on one of these items on the list

I am ROFL!!! I've been married over 20 years and JUST got the towels about 6 months ago. It was exactly like you said...there's always something more important than towels :) I was at a Ross/TJ Maxx type store and they had a huge sale on really nice thick big towels so I said, I'M GETTING THEM!!! I bought about 14 bath sheets and it cost me about $45. It felt so great!!! I thought, why the heck did I wait so many years to just do it? I know this sounds silly to some people and we are not poor by any means, but this was one thing I just never could get myself to buy! I'm so glad I'm not alone.
I also do the "THAT'S OK! I'll get my _____ NEXT month" with most luxury items that are only for me...running shoes, a leather jacket, a new sweat suit. For the kids, no expense is spared :) Ahhh, the life of a mom!
P.S.
Watch for that great sale & BUY the towels! You can't believe how great such a little thing will make you feel!

As another mom said my HAIRcut... I use to get it cut every 4-5 months, it has now been over a year since I got it cut. Driving me CRAZY!!!

Also a new TV or two. The living room one is only 5 years old but HUGE box one... the bedroom one is 20 years old, little box TV where the speakers have no worked for 8 years (have computer spearks hooked up so have sound), the VCR stopped working last year (YES I still have VHS tapes and still watch them), and most of the buttons do not work. Oh those flat screen TVs look so nice and take up hardly any room compared to the boxy TVs... dreaming, wishing, hoping someday .............. :)

Towel wise I was the same way. Finally in JAN I got a coupon for KOHL'S and got some awesome $25 towels for only $5 each!!! Since it was just Christmas I felt a tad bad that I bought them but enough was enough, plus I have been skipping out on my hair cut, which is something like $50 each time so I went for it.

Recently it has been my hair that has to wait one more month, now that is sad considering what I want would be under $60! The good news is since I have not been able to justify even the smallest excess is that hair I would have lopped off is actually grown out to a reasonable length now. I really need it to get professionally colored though. I have really dark hair and now that is seems like the gray hair is taking over and it is the wiry kind of gray and nothing will cover it...I just wanted to get some well placed highlights to make it not so shocking when the sun hits my head = ) I had broke down and made arrangements and what do you know the week it was supposed to be done ( I had a Thursday appt) I lost my main job that Monday. So I cancelled my appt. Then the next week after that? My car broke down, it had thrown a rod and is basically a paper weight now, because it needs a replacement engine...( not happening!) I think I will be one more monthing this hair deal well into the future.

I know what you mean, but mine is kind of the opposite. I truly almost NEVER spend money on myself, because over the years I've come to the conclusion that every single time I do, whether it's 3 new outfits for the summer, a pair of shoes, a few new bras, whatever, within days there will be some huge expense like a blown out tire, a broken deep freezer, baseball sign-ups, SOMETHING with always come up & then I'll feel amazing amounts of guilt.

It's for this same reason that after 12 years of marriage to include 2 children & 4 deployments as well as 1 year of police academy which caused the kids & I to have to live with my parents, I still don't have a diamond ring. I'm terrified that if I ever really kind of demand one, that the minute it goes on my finger the house will burn down!

I've wanted to tint the windows on our little pickup and put a cheap stereo in it. Probably would be $100 total, but time nor money exists for that type of upgrade.
I've also been jonseing for a bluray player and surround system for the tv, but I'll have to hit the lottery for that kind of splurge.

Isn't it funny that the things we really want are for the house and the benefit of the whole family.

for the ladies on here who need the following.. these are the places I have found items for cheap..
since contact lens are so expensive, why not just get glasses.. at Zennioptical, you can find them SUPER dirt cheap and they have some cute ones from which to pick..
as for towels.. Both Target and JC Penny will have some that aren't expensive and if not there, go online there are many online stores who buy big brand names and sell them for cheap..
Additionally, if you don't have insurance and need to shop around for blood tests and or things like CT scans.. when my husband and I paid insurance out of our pocket, turns out there are legitimate labs out there whom if you take in a prescription from your doctor for e.g. a blood test (which can cost up to 100s of dollars at a hospital) I found labs will do it for about 20 to 40 dollars... same with a ct scan.. my husband needed one last year and the hospital wanted to charge in the thousands of dollars.. we looked around and found a place that does them (and legitimately so) for about a few hundred dollars.. again, we saved a fortune and often, the private labs and x-ray places will have results in the same day and email them to your doctor.. so there are bargains to be had..
also, I have found when it comes to contact lens.. there are online stores whom at times have specials going on..
lastly for haircuts.. beauty schools will often do them for cheap.. and for those of you who just need a trim.. that is often the cheapest..
I wish you all the best..
