Correll are the best!! Light weight, dish washer friendly and great warranty! We just bought a set though the outlet store with a good sale. Buy the box (4 dinner, 4 cups, 4 bowls, and 4 small plates) get 4 med size plates free. Plus they were having a buy 3 get 1 free sale on the loose plates so we got 4 more dinner plates. I ended up going back and getting 4 more med plates because I didn't realize I was getting the smaller plates in the box. But out of the box, one of the bowls was chipped so I called their 800 # and they sent me a replacement in less than a week!

My other dishes were 2 different sets of Correll that hubby and I combined when we got together and that was 6 yrs ago and I've had my set since I can remember as a kid!!!

You should check out Corell. They have come along way and now have alot of fun designs and styles.

I have a set of Correll (sp) and I LOVE them. I have an older house that has ceramic sinks. I have broken so many dishes on those stupid sinks! My Correll has never broken. They have a lot more fun designs than they used to.

If I remember correctly there are 4 types of dishes: stoneware, porcelain, pottery and fine china. Do you know what kind of Dansk dishes you have? All that I'm familiar with are stoneware, the sturdiest of all dish types and they shouldn't crack. They will if you heat them in the oven. Perhaps your water heater is set too high.

I recommend stoneware because it is very sturdy. Porcelain or fine china is also sturdy. Avoid pottery. It's chips easily.

I suggest that you go to a store that sells primarily china. I went to one in the Phoenix area and was able to buy pieces from a couple of different sets so that I could get the shapes that I wanted. Mix and match is fun. If the set you choose doesn't have the large pasta bowls another set might. Just buy the pasta bowls.

I just got correlle dishes. They are kind of funky, simplicity contours. They are casual and have a handle of sorts which does make it SO easy to carry. There are a LOT of patterns and if you can go to an outlet, or look online you'll more than likely see something you like.

Costco had a nice set of simple white, square dishes.

i'll add my voice to the correll chorus. my brother got us a set when we got married 25 years ago. they're handsome, versatile and virtually indestructible. we still have almost the entire original set and use 'em every day.

Try Williams Sonoma Outlet.
They have exactly what you are looking for -- for much fewer dollars.
I got large pasta bowls for $1 each.
I got large white plates for $1 each.
I got those a few years ago, but they always carry them in stock, so when one breaks, I can get a replacement.

I've gotten most of my white plates and bowls from Cost Plus and Pier 1. When they are white you can mix and match sets.

I have the Food Network dishes that they sell at Kohl's. (I am not a big Kohl's shopper! Lol.)
They are all white and have different shapes/sets available.
Mine are very basic/classic and I really like them. And there are lots of additional/serving pieces available too.
Kinda pricey, but if you watch the sales you can get a decent deal.
