Thin, Fine Hair

I have straight, thin, fine hair. It's dry due to bleaching for a zillion years but my hubby wants me to stay blonde so I still have to bleach. What shampoo and rinses are you using that give you some body and shine? I havent found anything that I truly love lately, old hair is hard to work with. I'm willing to put out the big bucks at the beauty supply store if anyone has some good suggestions. Also, can you buy hair extensions at a beauty supply store? I havent been in one for years.

What can I do next?

I would recommend warming up some Olive Oil, run it through you hair at night before bed, sleep on a towel, then wash out in the morning. I've done this for my swimmer daughter, who took first place in state for her event, and her lovely blonde locks were in the chlorinated pool water all the time to get that far in swimming. It worked like magic....try as often as you like :)

There is a hair salon in Castro Valley that speicalizes in fine, thin hair. They sell products for fine, thin hair as well. Their number is ###-###-####. I would ask for Chris, she's the salon owner and very helpful. If you prefer to walk in, there address is 2797 Castro Valley Blvd, Castro Valley, CA 94546.

I swear by Loreal products but the best advice I can give you is to get a really good cut. I just got back from my hairdresser and also have very thin and fine hair that has taken a beating from bleaching it for so many years. Also a blonde. But let me tell you, my stylist gave me such an awesome cut today and my hair looks gorgeous (if I do say so myself, lol!). It is just to the top of my shoulders now and he cut it in choppy layers to help hide the fact that it is so thin and fine. I also use oil and another waxy/thick type of product that he told me to mix together and kind of scrunch it all up in my hands. Hard to explain but I look like a different woman. Find a good stylist and don't lose him! They can work wonders with your hair! They are as hard to find as a doctor is!

If you can fine Citrishine, their products are awsome. I haven't been able to find them in awhile. (If you find them, let me know!)

I am currently working with Garnier Fructis with some success.

Nutrigena might work for you, although, it can be kind of heavy.

I am just trying Pantene Fragile to Strong formula. I have only used it for about a week now but so far I love it! I tried the Garnier as I also had heard many great things about it. It made me itch like crazy. Not sure what that was all about.

Envya products from Melaleuca.com have worked well for me. I have thin hair that is also greying... nearly white now. It tends to be quite dry as well. Melaleuca also has a spray in detangling moisturizer called Advanced Expressions that I use several times a week. The extra moisturizing from that not only helps keep my hair tidy, but actually brings back some of the natural color.

My friend had a body perm every 6-8 weeks and she had lovely hair except when she let it grow out. It looked awful, oily, stuck to her head, limp, dull, etc...it was also bleached so have a salon try one and see how you like it.

I have been highlighting my hair for years and have tried almost every shampoo from the beauty supply store. So far my favorite is the Redken Color Extend, but I also like Joico for color-treated hair and Brocato Miracle Repair Shampoo. My hairdresser swears by the Joico Moisture Recovery Conditioner and I would agree that my fine, straight hair is left tangle-free after using it. I hope this helps!

The brand Garnier Fructis... is great.
You can find it at any drugstore or grocery store and it is not expensive.
They have products for dyed hair too.
Here is their website:
http://www.garnierusa.com/_en/_us/our_products/range-stru...

You might also consider using a leave in conditioner... or a hair "glossing" serum... Garnier Fructis has these as well and it is not heavy or greasy feeling.
and look for products for 'dry damaged' hair....

Bleaching can be real harsh on the hair... making it dry and cause breakage etc. Do you do it yourself, or a salon does it? Maybe try to find gentler hair dye formulations... too.
Or maybe instead of bleaching your whole head, maybe consider highlighting... to give your hair a rest.
You are nice to do that for your Husband. :)
But think of the health of your hair.... or maybe ask a Salon professional.

The only one that I have truly had any success with is Nature's Gate shampoo and conditioner which I found in the health food section of our local grocery store. They were about $7 for a large bottle if memory serves me correct. I've tried a lot of other products out there but this has been the only one that leaves my hair soft and shiny (my hair is also chemically treated) without weighing it down.

Hope this helps.

I agree with Christine D. Purology works because it is sulfate free - the ingredient that dries out hair. I recently switched to sulfate and paraben free products and - WOW - what a difference in my hair. I have long (middle of the back) hair and my ends were soo dry and would clump together. They are expensive but you don't shampoo every day so it does last. Go to your beauty supply store and ask for sulfate free options.

Hi Grandma,

I have fine hair all my life and am in the salon industry so believe me when I tell you I have triend everything out there. The only thing that really makes my hair thicker is extensions. You can buy them at a beauty supply store but they are very difficult to put in even for a professional. I recommend going to a salon and having them done. It can be expensive the first time but they last 3 months and you can reuse the hair so the next times are not as expensive. It will fix your volume and color problem all in one. Also you can be blond with out bleaching your hair. Good luck

I know what you mean. I've had highlights for years now and I actually tried out a few Avon hair products. Check it out. I didn't find it to be expensive either. I could always send you a sample if you'd like. Let me know.

I just went to the hair salon last week. I have fine hair that is very dry. I highlight but I am going to lay off for awhile. My hairdresser told me and I agree that Pureology is the best out there. Try the hydrate line in the purple bottles. Don't wash your hair everyday because shampoo dries it out more. just rinse it in the shower and then condition it. You will probably find that the days you don't shampoo you actually have more body in your hair.
