I need advice. I've always had thick hair, but my hair has been thinning over a period of time. Now it is probably half what it used to be (it was very thick) and the front noticeable to me! I don't know if it's hormones or what am wondering what would help or if there is anything that would help. Do i see a dermatologist? an ob/gyn?

Has anyone out there experienced this?

Thank you so much!

Okay I'm having this issue right now too and I wondered about my thyroid as well, so I guess after reading your responses I better make an appointment too! I just got my hair cut last week and asked my hair dresser about it and even he noticed that my hair was thinning. His advice was to buy Rogaine. He said that he's been using it for years and swears by it! He said to buy the generic kind and buy the one for men b/c it's the exact same thing and it's cheaper. He said to do it a few times/week and do it on the nights before you're going to shower and wash your hair.

I lose hair like crazy after each pregnancy as someone else mentioned but my son just turned 15 months so I think maybe I should be out of that wacky hormonal stage by now...maybe you're in the same boat. Losing hair sucks and I don't think anyone else really notices it like you do, but it's hard!

I second getting your thyroid checked. I am about to go do that myself! I lose so much hair it's insane! I know that I have a hypoactive thyroid (been diagnosed before and was on meds during both pregnancys)..just didnt have the insurance to go to the doc until now. Its horrible to see your hair thinning! I used to have thick hair too...and now, if I put it up I can see my scalp very clearly.

Hope you figure out whats going on! Good Luck!

Did you have a baby recently?

Every person loses hair every day. I think its around 200-300 hairs a day. *crazy huh?*
Well when you're pregnant you Do NOT lose that hair. And that is because of the hormones.
So once you have the baby, and your hormones go back to their normal levels, you start to lose the hair that you held on to while pregnant.
So it seems like you are losing A LOT of hair.

I know how you feel. I noticed my hair thining like CRAZY after my baby. It looks like my hair line is receding. But really the hair broke and is just very short compared to the rest.

Vitamin E helps with hair growth.

Go the doctor. I would check with your gen doctor first for the specialist he or she would recommend. My sister recently went through this and after checking her thyroid (fine) - they found she had increased testosterone and very low vitamin B and D... .Start w/ a general physical and bloodwork with your regular doctor... good luck

Go see your normal doctor and ask to get your thyroid checked. Mine was doing the same thing as yours is, it was my thyroid being low and I needed medications to get it back to normal. :) It could be that or you are very stressed out. That causes hair loss too.

You need to have your thyroid and other vitamin levels checked but your OB or family dr. If they come back normal I would find a Derma specializing in Hair Disorders and Diseases. This is common after child birth and 6 months to a year out from that. The only reason I know all of this and said this is b/c I have Alopecia and am completely bald now. I'm not trying to scare you but atleast get checked out and see what your options are. Don't do the Rogaine thing, this is a temporary fix and when you stop using it the hair just falls out.

This happened to me after my first child. It was progressively for almost two years. I went to a dr. check my thyroid, it was fine. I actually went back a few months later and found out it was due to stress and depression. I have been using rogaine and taking cvs brand hair vitamins. It has helped soooo much.

I also went to a dermatologist, he prescribed a foam for me. I cant remember the name of it. My ob also suggested using a sulfate based shampoo just in case it was a fungus.
