Toddler Travel Bed - Bayfield,WI

I am looking for a travel bed for my 15 month old daughter. She used to use her pack and play but that is too small now. We have a number of weekend trips planned for this summer- both indoor and camping trips. Our daughter is picky about where she sleeps so we are looking to get her used to her new travel bed ahead of time. Anyone have any suggestions on a good toddler travel bed?

What can I do next?

The AeroBed for Kids is a MUST for traveling with toddlers! I received one a year ago and simply LOVE it! It sets up in two minutes flat, is comfortable, has some sides to it so they don't roll out, and is small for packing and traveling with. You can read more of my thoughts about it here: http://uggamugga.blogspot.com/2008/09/aerobed-for-kids.html

We have a blow up sleeping bag air mattress too. My son is 2.5 and he outgrew the pack n play around 18 months. The best part about the sleeping bag aspect is that he can't EASILY get out! lol

We purchased a Pea Pod travel bed from Kidco last year when we were going to be traveling with my son, who had just turned 3. It's like a little tent and folds up and down real easily. He loves it. It comes with a little sleeping bag with air mattress and a pump to pump it up. It folds down really small which makes it nice for traveling. They have 2 sizes. We got the larger of the 2 and really like it.

I'm not even sure what a travel bed is, but my 4 1/2 yo son loves traveling with a sleeping bag. He is slow to adjust and doesn't do transitions well, but he absolutely adores traveling in the car for long distances with a sleeping bag. He can snuggle up in it to sleep in the car, which is great (family is 6 and 9 hours away--we invariably travel past his bedtime), and when he's not so sure about where he is (a hotel, or even a relative's house sometimes), a sleeping bag is always "his".

DO NOT BUY THE READY BEDS! They are so loud and totally obnoxious. We bought them on vacation for our kids when traveling iwth friends, not enough beds, and w ewere ready to burn them by the end of hte trip. The adults didn't get any sleep because the beds were so darn loud when the kids moved. IT was awful! They loved them, but we just couldn't handle them. They went down the road when we got home!

http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId... This is a good bed, it has sides so its harder for the kid to roll out.

I can't believe she has outgrown the pack and play... my boys slept in one at my moms until they were 3, plenty of room, and they are big boys too.

Hi Leah,
Our son crawled out of the pack n play at Grandma's for the first time at 22 months. At the time, we improvised with a single mattress on the floor, which worked out FINE! I was amazed. We switched right to a toddler bed when we got home. After that trip, I purchased a twin sized air mattress. They're super cheap (even when you purchase one with a pump), they fit into a small bag, they're comfy for your child, and if they fall off, they probably won't even notice! In my opinion, why bother spending all sorts of money on a fancy travel toddler bed that they really don't need? Go for an air mattress and save yourself the expense, and the travel space!
Good luck,
Amy K

When my son was 18 months old, we bought one of those little fold out couches from Toys R Us. They have many different designs, but we bought Elmo because that was his current obsession at the time. They often go on sale, so I wouldn't pay full price for one.

He loves it and sleeps great on it when we take it on trips. It doesn't provide a ton of support, so it won't serve this purpose forever, but in the meantime it is a great little place for him to sit and read books.

I’ve been looking into this as well since we go camping a few times a year and our son is too big for his Pack and Play. Our friends have an inflatable mattress with sides and a battery operated pump that works well. They got from onestepahead, but they no longer sell that model. I’ve checked Amazon.com and the Aerobed for Kids gets good reviews. It has an electric pump, but there is a compatible battery operated pump available from Aerobed (I emailed their customer service). Amazon has a couple of other options that get good reviews.

Hi Leah--

We just made a purchase earlier this month for our 3-year-old son (he is still sleeping in a crib). We purchased the Tuckaire Toddler Bed by The Shrunks' from Amazon. We used it this past weekend at my mom's house and he loved it. We liked that it had some sides to keep him from rolling off and that you can "tuck in" a crib sheet to fit the mattress. It comes with an air pump and is really easy to inflate and put away.
We plan to use it for our 1-year-old daughter too after she outgrows the pack-n-play.

My husband and I just purchased the PeaPod for my 12 month son. We got the smaller size and really wish we had gotten the plus size because it won't be long before he completely grows out of it. My DS sleeps wonderfully, better than he did in his own crib! It's a great price too. Good luck!

We have been using a flip out sofa from Toys R Us for the last year with our son when we travel. He LOVES it and stays in place. Of course it helped that we bought the CARS one since that is his favorite movie. He is 2.75 now and still does great with it.

Hi Leah! Have you looked at www.onstepahead.com ? Their blow up toddler beds look so comfy! I wish they made them in my size! :) I would imagine they take up much less storage space than a pack n play.

They sell blow up sleeping bags. It is like an air mattress with a sleeping bag attached. Ours came with a foot pump and it was Dora themed.

I purchased a cot from Ikea and love it. It sits about a foot from the ground so you may have to find ways to block the sides if she moves alot at her age. It is great for traveling folds up flat and cost about $80. I am still using it for my 8 year old son and sleep overs works perfect.
