my 4 month old has sleeping issues and i think giving her a little stuffed animal to pet would be soothing to her and help her fall asleep. my dh, on the other hand, is completely opposed to the idea. he thinks she is still too young and would suffocate. she is a very strong baby and her ped is amazed with her "excellent trunk control", she uses her hands and can grab at things pretty accurately now. i really doubt that she will suffocate on a beanie baby even if the experts say not to put anything in the crib/ bassinet with them until they're 6 months. what do you think?? any suggestions on how to convince dh since even the docs comments didn't help?
you do what you feel you have to do. My daughter had a lovey at 3 months, but my son never did. just like co-sleeping its up to you!(you've already been told the risks so.......)
You should try one of those "lovey" blankets that are just a small stuffed animal head attached to a little blanket. It worked wonders with my youngest son when he was that age. I began by laying on his tummy within his reach whenever I was trying to soothe him or put him to sleep and kept it within his sight in the beginning in his crib and as he got a bit older put it by his side. His is a bear and when he squeezes the head of the bear (or rolls over or plops down on it) the bear says the Lord's Prayer in a child's voice which is also very very comforting to him. I hear him squeeze it in the middle of the night whenever he wakes up or stirs and he falls right back to sleep without crying! Good Luck!
We used a square, really soft blanket that is kind of like a stuffed animal in that it has an animal head at one end. In fact, my little one loves it so much we have four, two giraffes, a monkey and a bear! We feel more comfortable with this than an actual stuffed animal, plus it is easier for him to wrap his arms around. Good luck!
My Daughter has been sleeping with a rather large Bunny (named Daisy)it is the carters bunny you tie to the crib and pull the tail to play music box. I cut the tie off and she has been sleeping with it since day one!! She has been sleeping throught the night since 2 months and goes to sleep on her own since day one. I think the bunny helped!! Start her off with a Lovey during naps and see how she does. You can always put her to bed with it and take it when she falls asleep. My Daughter now 8 months lets it go after she is sleeping I could easly take it. Maybe that would ease her dad?? Let us know the out come and goog luck!!!

My son would not even attach himself to a a lovey until he was about 15 months old (and he is 20 months now), no matter how hard I tried! But here is something I found online that might help you:
It is good to introduce a lovey from the start of baby’ s life. Loveys are especially useful later, when helping a baby learn to soothe himself to sleep. To minimize the risk of SIDS, choose a safe lovey that is smaller than the child’s head, but not small enough to be a choking hazard (a small, plush rattle is good). From day one, let baby snuggle with this item while you rock and feed him. He will associate it with comfort.

****EDIT***** I just wanted to add something to Tammi S's response: She was talking about that teddy bear with the heartbeat. I'm not sure about Meijer or Walmart, but I've definitely seen those at Babies R Us, for sure!!

i do agree with you all five of my kids had some kind of stuff animal to sleep with i am not sure i would go with a beanie babie maybe a supper soft stuff animal or a blanket animal the head is a stuff animal the body is a small blanket well good luck

When my youngest son (now almost 10) was born, someone bought him this amazing teddy bear... I would put it at the opposite end of his bed. It took batteries, but it made the sound of a "mothers heartbeat" and other sounds associated with being in the womb. He slept 7 hrs a night, and yea allll at once lol, at 1 1/2 weeks!! I wish I knew where it was gotten, but I am sure you could find it at Meijer or Walmart or something. He still grabs it once in a while when he is sick (he gets pneumonia very easily) and finds great comfort in it. Good Luck

I would say that if your daughter is able to roll over really well and has excellent head control then she would be fine to have a lovey. However, if she is not rolling over yet, then I would say she may not be ready for a lovey.
I do have a few friends that instead of giving their kids loveys, they have the Ocean Wonders Aquarium crib toys. They say their kids will trigger the music to play on their own and it soothes them back to sleep. (this is what they tell me, I have no personal experience with the toy as we do not have it. But I thought I would share the info in case you want to check into it. ;) )
Anyway, thats just my two cents.
