What do you do with your kids old toys and books or things they no longer play with? Can you resale them anywhere else than garage sales?

What can I do next?

I've bought quite a few baby things off of Craig's list. I find it a bit more immediate, and personal, than eBay.

Sign up for freecycle, freesources and dupagecountyparent swap. It's a recycling site where people give stuff away, and you can get rid of stuff. You can get a lot of good stuff for free. I've received some winter boots for my kids, halloween costumes for 2 years for both of them, christmas tree, toys, sleeping bag, etc. I've seen people give away a car, computers, furniture and a lot more stuff.
Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/, then search for freecycle, freesources groups in towns in your area. Just type in your town, sign up and have fun. It's an awesome site! You get a lot for free and by recycling you help save the environment! Also try the online parent swap and garage sale groups.

I like ebay. As long as it's in decent condition, you can make a small amount for the items. If you sell enough things, you can make enough money for a nice dinner, weekend away, or whatever special purchase item you've got your eye on. The best part is that the toys will be going to someone who wants them.

Some churches, schools and parent organizations ie Mothers and More have resales in the area that you could try to sell through. You could also sell through craigslist.com or napervilleyardsales.com w/o having a garage sale.

Try exchanging them at a resale shop. Take in your old stuff and use it to get "new" stuff. Or, you can do freecycle.com. (free site that lets you give away things)

Hi P.,

Depending on where you are located there are a lot of options. I always try to sell my bigger more valuable/wanted toys on Craigslist firt. Then in the spring and fall there are resales galore. I sell my kids toys, clothing, etc at the McCarty/Owen (school) resale. Their fall resale is 9/20. If you volunteer you get 85% of your resale price while the other 15% goes as a donation for their PTA. That 15% is a tax right off and you get a letter for your tax docs. I just sold a bunch of clothes, small toys and shoes and got $135. Also, I know there is one coming up in a couple of weeks...I think 4/4 at the Kendall county fairground. If you want more info, feel free to contact me.

I just donated some games and toys to my children's school. They asked parents for games to use for indoor recess. I'm sure some teachers would love to have the games even if your daughter's school is not asking for any.

We've donated boxes and boxes of children's toys, books, and clothes. The goodwill website has a sheet you can print out to find values (for tax purposes).

I've heard that some people sell toys on eBay, but it's so time-consuming to deal with stuff like that (my husband trades/sells some stuff for a hobby of his) that I haven't attempted it myself.
