Are you breastfeeding? I noticed my period has been 32 apart since I had my baby in Jan. I kept thinking I was pregnant, and getting repeat neg tests.

Have you recently stopped taking the pill? I had a hard time getting pregnant (well not hard compared to people with infertility problems, but...) because when I discontinued using the "pill" my cycle was not a normal 28 day cycle. It was anything from 29 days to 43 days! So guessing when ovulating was a real guess. And the longer cycles (most were in the 40 day range) made few fewer ovulations than most people during the same time frame.

If you haven't changed your hormones like that recently, then it is possible to have a late cycle due to stress or other things. But it is also possible to be pregnant and not test positive on a home test if it is still in the first 3-4 weeks or so of pregnancy.

If nothing else is amiss, give it another week and see what happens. If it is stressing you too much to wait, go see your Dr for blood work to determine the cause.

You could be pregnant and it is too early to show up on the test. I would wait another week and take another one. If you are not pregnant, there are many reasons why you may not have started your period. Weight loss, or weight gain, some medications, stress, and many other medical issues such as thyroid disorders can cause you to not have a period. Good luck!

you could be pregnant but still getting a negative on a pregnancy test. The pregnancy hormones in your system have to be a t a certain level to make a pregnancy test positive. If you are concerned, see your doctor for a blood test. Blood tests are more sensitive.

Good luck. I hope this has the outcome you are hoping for.

it depends on how far along you are if you are pregnant. sometimes if you wait another week or so after you take the first test then it will show. when you do take the test again make sure it's the first thing you do when you wake up. it's more accurate that way. trust me i have gone through this 3 times and i have 3 healthy boys now.

A.,

One, you could have taken the pg test too soon. I would try it again in a few days.

Two, if you are going through any stressful or emotional issues in your life, that can throw your period off a few days or so. Don't worry though, it's normal to have irregular periods the older we get. Your body could be going through a change and your cycles could be shifting.

I think it's a bit too early to worry at this point. Give it a few months and then see if there is a pattern.

Take Care,
T.

Are you using any form of BC? Is there a reason you might be pg?
Sometimes you can get a false negative so I would wait a week and if your period doesn't come again--re-test....

Try taking another pregnancy test. Depending on where you live, there are usually free clinics to go to that have very accurate tests. I used to volunteer at one of these clinics, and I have seen a lot of different scenarios. One lady didn't show positive for 2 months! (But of course that was not the norm.) The best time of the day to take a pregnancy test is in the morning because of the hormone levels in your urine. As the day goes on, hormone levels drop and you may not get as accurate of a reading. Good luck!

I had something like that happen to me a few years back. I was about 34 and my period did not come for 2 months straight. I knew that it couldn't be pregnancy as I am a widow and was not seeing anyone, so the doctor said that if I was under a lot of stress sometimes that can keep it from coming on. I come from a family with several cases of premature menopause and started to think that I too was going to follow the family lines. After the second month of not getting my period I went to the doctor and they gave me a drug to bring it on. That was a mistake too because then we couldn't get it to stop for 90 days. EEEEEKS! Nothing was working at with the doctors office so I went to a nutritionist and she put me on some homeopathic medicine (hormonal). Next thing I knew I was feeling better and everything started to work properly. I on occasion have my FSH levels tested while at the OBGYN and they can tell from that if your in early or pre-menopause. Come to find out that I have started menopause early but it's not full blown yet and I am only 37.........It can happen.

Sorry for the book.

My suggestion is to talk with your Dr. You may need to have a blood test, to test for preg. You may have gotten a bad preg. test.

hi A., it's possible you could be pregnant. On my fourth pregnancy, I was showing the signs but all the tests showed up negative, I didn't get a positive test until I was already in my 3rd month. If you really want to know what's going on you can schedule an appt with your O.B. and they can do a blood pregnancy test and those are the most accurate. Take care!

It's my understanding that you can get a false negative if there's not enough hormone (yet!) but no false positives. There are other reasons why you might be late (stress is one!). Can wait and test again or schedule an appointment with your doctor. Ask yourself if you feel pregnant (swollen, tender breasts, tiredness, etc.) Best Wishes,

You could be stressed out which can delay periods in some women OR your period could be shifting itself.

The latter happens to me at least once a year. It shifts to the end of the month rather than the beginning.

I took a home test 3 times and they were all negative....thought I might be in early menopause (I was 38) finally went to the dr. told her I wasn't pregnant...she was going to "jumpstart" my period back as I was a bit young for menopause...BUT did a blood pregnancy test first....guess what???? I was pregnant....13 weeks!!!!! I missed the whole first trimester...and just so you know...this was baby #5 for me...so I knew what pregnant felt like. I lovingly refer to him as "my menopause baby" LOL. My suggestion, wait a bit more and then see a dr. Blessings, R.
