Using a Passport Under My Old Name

Hello moms,
I'm planning on going to Europe this spring with my kids. I haven't changed my name in my passport since I got married, so my passport is under my old last name from my first marriage. All my other documents like DL, ID, SS Card have been changed except for the passport since I didn't need to use it. It expires in 2011, so I only have a few years left to the expiration and to change the name I would have to pay $70 and then another $100 to get a new passport when this one expires...
I'm wondering if I can just travel using the passport under the old name.
My kids are going with me and their documents have my new last name in them. So that's why I'm concerned.
Does anyone know if this will be an issue?
Thank you.

Like the other posters have said, you definitely have to update your name in the passport.

I hate to tell you this, but I think your'e going to have a problem with it.If you don't have any other documents with the old last name and eveything else has been changed to the new, they are going to question it.They have really cracked down on ALL identification, even those that are used within the US. Save yourself the trouble and get it changed as soon as possible!!

Just a warning. My aunt tried that. They kept her there for 7 hours trying to figure it out! I'd get it changed now. I know it's pricy, but it won't be fun getting stuck there for hours.

My husband and I went on our honeymoon right when they starting requiring passports this past year & our travel agent & the passport bureau told us that I could not travel with a passport with my maiden name on it (even if you brought your birth certificate & marriage license with you) because then your picture IDs & Passports would not match.

I just went throgh the same thing- having to change my name on my passport. Yes, you absolutely have to change it. Although, it is only $67. You can go onto the passport website and print out a renewal application, send that in with your original marriage certificate, your old passport, and the fee. It only took my new passport approximately 4 weeks to get me by regular mail. You will not have to pay again(or renew) for another passport for 10 years- they automatically change the expiration date to reflect the date of the newly reissued passport. You will not be allowed to travel with any other document than a passport to Europe, neither will your children, so you'll need to get them passports as well.
