Very Green Poopy Diaper

My 14 month old has had two dirty diapers within the past two or three hours that are extremely green. Texture and all look like always, but it's like green playdough or food coloring (bright green). He hasn't had anything different to eat, and we don't even own any kind of playdough or anything similar. Does anyone know what this could be? I'm going to keep an eye on it. I don't want to go to the urgent care facilities just yet, but I'm a little concerned.

We don't do juices, and he hasn't had anything with that type of color. His snacks are pretty boring - crackers, animal crackers, goldfish, graham crackers. . .His dr said it could be just something in the way of digesting and not to worry. We'll see what happens.
Thanks!

Roto-Virus typically has a neon green apopearance in poop.

My daughter had it when she was about 9 months old. No fever or anything.

This could also be food that went through the digestion track too fast and did not have time to digest. When this happens you can see the bile in the stool....which shows up green. Try going to web MD and type in green stool and it will give you the more technical answer....happened to my son...nothing to worry about unless it keeps happening.

Our son ate some blue and green icing on a cake (or maybe cupcake) once and had neon green poop for 3 days... did he have any special Valentine's stuff? I wouldn't worry unless it keeps him from pooping normally or is causing a bad rash.

I know this sounds weird, but if he's eaten anything with blue food coloring (fruit punch, popcicles, fruit chews, etc), that could be the culprit. Generally color wouldn't be anything major to worry about.

Just a guess...but are you nursing him? Maybe it's something you're eating. Are you taking new vitamins?? If none of the above, I found this on Google via a website called heptune.com. I have no idea what kind of site this is, but this was found:

"Green poop can also be caused by excess iron in the diet, from dietary supplements, for example. If the body does not absorb all the iron consumed, the iron may stain the poop green, the color of iron (II) salts. Ordinarily, the green color may be masked by the normal brown poop color, but if digestion is thrown off by illness so that bilirubin is less concentrated in the intestine, the green color may become apparent. This can happen when a person is afflicted with diarrhea.
Green poop in sick babies may come from iron in baby formula not being properly absorbed, or by green pigments in bile salts (again, green from iron)."

My son had those when he was little and the doctor said it was just food that hadn't digested properly.

I have heard that purple food coloring turns poop to a playdough green. Like, grape coolaid or juice or jello. Good luck!

My daughter was in daycare a short while and the whole class had that same issue. It would arise and go away with all the kids. None were sick...dr said it was just digestion or what they ate. Teacher said it was typical every year in that age group to see it. I wouldn't worry unless your child had symptoms of concern. Best of luck to you!

Has he eaten any colored applesauce lately? Blue's Clues variety can cause just the color diaper you are decribing...Good luck!

I worked in a daycare center for 3 years. You could always tell after the young ones had "blue juice" because they all had green in their diapers. Don't know why blue comes out green, but it does. I am pretty sure it is nothing to worry about.

If he's had any grape koolaid or anything with the purple coloring to it, it can change poop to look green...

Are you sure he didnt try some fruit loops, roll up or fruit chews? That always makes my sons poo bright green.

I wouldn't worry unless he seems to feel ill or starts to vomit.
