Hi Moms,

We thought we had found the ideal school for my son back in Spring. He started their summer camp mid june and settled in great, we all thought things were going wonderful. We find out today that they don't feel they can meet my Sons needs. This is the first time they have mentioned it to us even thought we made them aware from the first visit he had Sensory Processing Issues. They say he can complete Summer Camp there but they don't feel it is suitable for him once school starts!

He's is receiving therapy weekly and we are more than willing to work with the school but in this case I guess the school didn't have the time or inclination to work with us. Anyway I digress.....

We know find ourselves scrambling to find a VPK provider ideally where they have experience with children like my son and are willing to work with him. Does anyone have any suggestions?

My husband has visited Wellington School on Starkey Rd in Largo today and he is impressed with it but it is expensive. We live and work in Largo so we are looking in that area. St Paul's school is also right by where we live, does anyone have any thoughts on that?

Any ideas are welcomed at this stage, thank you for your help.

J.

Susan C is right...call them first thing in the morning. I do occupational therapy with special needs kids in Largo area and around and have had several kids in the program. Call them and they will help, however they are not the fastest and you need to be persistent...keep calling!! Your son's therapist might have other suggestion too.

Best of luck J.!!

my son is two and a half and also has sensory issues, + some others too. i unfortunately, i havent been to that age yet with my son to know a good school. i do know that there is a "referral" program/(or company) called f.i.d.l.e.r.s. (which finds schools/ and resources for kids that age with issues, (such as that). you can get information on this program by contacting "the early steps" program. phone####-###-#### or ###-###-#### (ask or leave a message for: jill walck.) she is our program coordinator and she can get this information for you and/or answer any questions you have. they are located in downtown st.petersburg at all childrens hospital. + also, i myself am trying to start my own daycare business in my home in pinellas park. since my son has to same problem,i know how to handle it. if you might be interested, you can email me at:____@____.com (anyways, good luck,) and God bless! p i hope i have helped you.

Call the pinellas county school board and ask about the fiddlers program, you can get him into VPk free at one the local schools if he qualifies.
